I have found my max overclocks for my 280 sli's 680, 1050, 1750. I was wondering if anyone leaves their gpu's overclocked? I have my alienware on a cryo and my max gpu temp with any oc/stock is 69 degrees. What is everyone's opinion on leaving gpu's overclocked. I have had my desktop card oc since i got it 9800 gx2,(over a year) but it is on water max temp 40 degrees. I know that the more we stress, the more we lessen the life of our electronics, but without a vcore change would this really be that detrimental? I want everyone's opinion on this, as I am thinking about setting up a reasonable oc and just leaving it...say 650 1000 1700... please respond with your opinions as i know we all like to push differently... thanks

what games do you play that you need to have your overclock so high?

why is everyone overclocking to play games?

i'm glad you found the max overclock for your gpu but why would you risk it for 10 more fps gaming.

    benchmarking is different.

Yep, I don't need to overclock my GPUs for any games I play, including GTA4 and Crysis Warhead. Stock speed 280s play them quite well, especially with the latest driver updates.

just like to push a litle extra performance, mostly fps. also, I really don't think that it hurts the card as long as the temps remain cool. I have always oc my graphics and never had an issue. They set these things low, but we can get more out of them. thers is no change in the voltage so we are not pushing them past what they are capable of... just my opinion.

The higher clocks just introduce more heat and reduce the life span of the whole system.

well I would like to get at least a couple of years out of this machine - even though I'll probably buy a new one if they have a refresh. If it ain't broke no sense in me fixing it lol....
