    Hello all,

I'm looking around and confused... Alienware, Asus G50A2 and XPS1730...

I'm reading around but can't decide....

However which setup for the m15x is best value/money for gaming and video?

Also as i'm located in Israel there is no dealer over here, so how's the machine reliability?

    Many thanks for any help...

The G50vt seems to have better spec. How's the screen on it in compare to the Alienware WideUXGA? Also its few hundreds cheaper, isn't it?

There have been a few people who have got the m15x and had problems, most of those have been fixed by AW. If you like the AW read a few more posts than just one.

Uhh, almost every problem has been fixed. That thread milcs made is months old, back when the m15x was overheating like crazy. Now with the new BIOS, the m15x has been fine.

On an ironic note, the np8660 has been suffering alot of HDD overheating and failures :p

Ironic indeed, not to mention the only thing that made the np8660 stand up to the m15x was the 9800gt, but sager got rid of that option making the m15x still number 1.

btw, how do you like the acer?

What failures??? I haven't had a serious problem with my M860TU. So, I assume you are talking out of lack of information (also refered to as, ignorance, which I am not going to use as I don't want to sound to harsh).

The m15x has, indeed, seen several fixes coming up to solve different issues (and there were many). Some were solved sucessfully, some were not. In my perspective, there were no true solutions (as these would require going back to production line) but rather, patches that were introduced to hide the big hole that the m15x was.

More... even if the thread I created is old, it still compiles a lot of info on the most serious issue regarding the m15x... The hinges. There is no official information from AW regarding new chassis and we have had a few new owners sharing the same problem (which basically shows that there isn't a new chassis design to deal with the hinges).

In any case, read about it... I would never ever, recommend the m15x. I would not hesitate recommending the M860TU. There is no comparison between both... the m15x just looks pathetic close to the M860TU. And, I'm not saying this because I have the latter. It's just a observation gathered from the experienc I had with both.

    Take care,
    M.

Hey Milcs. I agree with you on one thing and it's the hinges of the m15x that are the cause of the worry. Since there is only one way to fix it and it is to send it back. But, so far AW has taken care of a whole bunch of issues already.

everybody, calm down. some m15x have/had issues, and some m860tu have/had issues as well. neither is perfect. however, it's impossible to generalize. you can't say that EVERY m15x and EVERY m860tu will have problems. so let's all just be nice to each other, respect the other's opinion, and let him be happy with his choice.

I agree with whizzo. Every notebook is bound to have something wrong with it, but not all notebooks will experience all of the issues that it said to have.

On another note, Milcs' thread about why you shouldn't get an m15x may be pervasive, but it is indeed informative. The only qualm I have about the thread is that if its purpose is to be informative, the language of the title and the first post should be a little bit more objective (but it's really up to Milcs if he wants to do that since it's his thread!) :)

Putting that aside, whether or not a person buys an m15x is ultimately up to them. Our job is to basically help them make a more informed decision. There are plenty of people (including myself) who are happy with the m15x and there are also plenty of people who aren't. If that certain someone decides that they don't want to risk it, let them be.

This also goes vice-versa (and I can't stress it enough.) If someone is set on buying the m15x even after reading all of the negative threads about it-- even after learning about all of the things that might happen to it, after countless pleads and suggestions to not buy the m15x-- also let them be. They obviously want it, so let them have it.

but also agree with whizzo to a degree...and oceanus.

but if others do not see the irony, then all is lost... :)

At least... someone knows what they are talking about! :)

Regarding the "terror" thread... I did try to start a thread specifically focused on the hinge problem, as the "don't buy the m15x" thread is really old and most of it outdated. When I did try to create a specific thread only for the hinges problem (at the time, there were 7 users with reported problems), I was almost banned from this forum. Today, there are 24 reported cases... Can you see the irony of it? I can...

Yeah Milcs owned a m15x, but if you look at his sig:
You would see that AW took his right to own one away, he must of been naughty. :p

Now but really, it's funny when someone post a "Need help - Buying new M15x" thread, in the AW forum, people always have to come by and say "hey you should check out a Sager".

Yeah, I think if you really want to suggest a Sager in this forum, for whatever reason, please make it an informed post. Include it's advantages and disadvantages. Posts that just say, "Get X Sager!!!!!!" not mentioning any names, should just get deleted. It helps nothing but epeens. Informative and honest posts are acceptable.
