Hey guys i am shopping for a new laptop and its now between only two companys. Alienware and Sager are the only ones i like or that will work. I will be using it for school, but also gamming. Since i will be getting rid of my desktop it needs to be comparable to one in signature.
I was going to go Quad core but in games, i remember that with the Quads most acually are slower in gamming then a good dual core is like a T9600 dual vs. Q9100 Quad, which one should i acually go with . Don't get me wrong if i had the money i would get the extreme quad, still might but probaly not since Sager is cheaper.
Right now looking at a T9800 Dual Dual sli (Probaly 260) 500GB HD and 4GB 1333ram for around 2,950 with a 8% discount for Starbucks and Autozone and a 200 doller dell gift card. This is the graph i have been using to look at processors.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html?&archive=0&benchmark_values=&deskornote=&month=&or=&search=&sort=3dmark06cpu
I like the Alienware (My friend still has a old P4 alienware he showed me and its still ticking great) light up keyboard is a real big plus, i really don't want to run vista but if i have to i will. Should i go dual core quad core?
The Sager computer i would get has a i7 processor and single 280M and its around 2,300 dollars. Or
Other Sager with dual 280s a 9300 Extreme around 3,400 to 3,500 18.4" screen.
What should i do?
I like the look of the alienware, and i am used to light up keyboards, desktop has one old laptop used to. Sager does not have one. Plus alienware looks sweet. 3,780 is what alienware want for same configuration as Sager with 9300 Processor and 280s.
Dell dosn't do combine discounts like student and autozone etc right? i have a 200 doller dell card i can get to help save some price off.
suggestings? Thanks, Brian

SUPER EASY
the i7 is way overkill and not a gaming laptop 1 hour battery
Sager 18 inch doesn't have hybrid graphics = poor battery
AW is a college kids choicefor the 3 hour battery life and power !!!!!!

yea just enable the integrated GPU and you would need to turn down the brightness but yea

Thanks for your help i am getting an Alienware laptop just need to decide if i want the dual core or the quad core laptop. I would love the QX9300 but we will see i am sure i can come up with somthing, if not it will be the T9600 Dual core (Need to luck up benchmarks but if i remeber right dual core will be faster with games)
I will be overclocking any of them anyways just a bit probaly
QX9300 to 3.0
T9600 would try 3.4 or so. -

You should love it; the M17 I have rivals my desktop machine in all but CPU now; and Im going to deal with that with an X9100 (I dont mind losing quad, and higher clocks benefit EVERYTHING).
It's (or an M17x) an absolutely awesome piece of kit; and one I felt justified in buying because its mobile; draws less power; is much much quieter than my desktop, looks pretty swish and saves me a hell of a lot of room; I just have to ween myself off automatically going to my desktop now!
If you're willing to upgrade the machine yourself; make sure you get a second drive caddy and screws included (I had to nick 2 screws from my M17s original drives), and then get some nice fast laptop drives, some RAM and a faster CPU installed and you're away. -
what is the max ram speed it can support for example can i use DDR3 1600 or DDR3 2000? Will my 2.5" Western digital hard drive work from my desktop. Its a velociraptor in a 3.5" bay that i can remove. Where do i get upgraded video cards at eventually? Last what is the fastest CPU i can install a QX9300 right? Thanks so much guys.

yes just get ddr3 memory with 1033 you dont need ddr3 1333 its overkill.
qx9300 is max you can go up for m17x. -
Where can i get a QX9300 engineering sample chip? -
