    Hi Everyone,

Are there any tech-heads out there--who know what they are talking about--who can tell me whether a new M17x from Alienware with a Core 2 Duo P 8600 2.4ghz will take a Quad Core processor, and if so, how strong quad core processor will it take? Will it accomodate an i7?

I have a line in on a cheap M17x with a Core 2 Duo, and I am curious about future upgrades. It has the SLI Nvidia's in it, so the processor is the only thing I am worried about. I am not sure what motherboard Alienware used, but I am guessing that there is a substantial difference between the Dual and Quad Core motherboards and the i7 motherboards.

Appreciate whatever help you can give. Thanks.

The M17x supports both Core 2 Dual and Core 2 Quad processors but it does not support Core i7 processors.

If you ever upgrade it, you may want to put a quad core in it.. and your options now are, so far, q9000 (2ghz), q9100 (2.26ghz), q9200 (2.4ghz; only ES) and QX9300 (2.53ghz).
