I'm not complaining, just stating the facts. I don't really care what it says, I just wanted it to say my name in case it got stolen, I could identify it.

Because if you found a $4000 laptop, you would try and return it...

I wanted my gaming tag on it, I guess there is OFFICIALLY no reason to buy it from alienware then...seeing as that is the only thing they don't try and rip you off with prices.

I'm gonna call them tomorrow, if they can't engrave what I want they can atleast leave it blank so I can bring it in to Things Engraved and get them to do it.

If they won't do a custom engraving, then I doubt they would leave it blank. They more then likely just order all their M17x's with "M17x" pre-engraved into it.

Why would they only do that for Canada though?

I can't believe how many pages this thread is.

About 280s vs 260s, 1333 vs 1066 ram, CPUs, headsets, Canada, warranty information, engravings.....

All I can say at this point is that no matter what M17x you buy, it will be upgradable and is going to impress you, I think anyone can agree with that. If you've ever seen Moo's CPU changing guide, checking out that CPU cooler is pretty cool, a big copper heatsink.

I look forward to upgrading in the future, it's part of the excitement that goes to owning one of these.

Yea I agree averagejo, the M17x is an amazing machine as is and you shouldn't sweat the small things

The do the engraving for the US...on dell's website there is an option somewhere when you are configuring the system. You can type in ~25 characters and they will engrave it I believe.

    Lol...

I wonder if you can order a specialized nameplate from Dell directly..for those of you who care about it. I wouldn't be surprised if you can.r\

My advise to you is to buy Quad Q9000 2.00GHz,1066MHz FSB,6MB and then upgrade to Qx9300 and for VGA buy Single 1GB GDDR3 then buy the other one from the internet and install it for your self, for the Ram same thing buy 4GB then buy the other 4 from newegg, and if can't install them take it to any computer shop they will do it for you. this way you will save more than 30% of the price.

Also you wont save much money, and IMO a waste to do the GPU upgrade yourself.

where would you get the new gpu to do the upgrade yourself....only dell carries them haha (and clevo but that isnt worth the trouble)

and yes, the ram idea will not work, only 2 dimms and htey come with 2x2 from dell not 1x4 - and the newegg price is about same as dells

the cpu idea works though, is what I did
