I'm interested in buying a M17x for gaming

    On the Dell site (canada), the Intel® Core™2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz (3MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB) cost more than the Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9100 2.26GHz (12MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB) (I substract 150$ if I choose the Quad)

On the Dell site (US), you must add 750$ for the same quad... Why?

Should I go with the Quad? Is it good for gaming?

Another question: the stuttering threads are scaring me to buy... should I wait

Thanks (sorry for my english, I'm a french :)

The Quad core is definitely a better processor, I would get that if i were you. I'm not sure about the price difference, maybe they mistakenly put the price wrongly on Canada site?.

And about the stuttering issues, some people might have it, and some people might not, I heard a lot of people complaining about the issues and some people just run Quad core without any troubles. I think it depends on your luck. However, I'm using Quad Core processor as well and just recently upgraded to QX9300(2.5) from Q9000(2.0). For some really odd reasons, the stuttering was gone and my temperature was even lower after I upgrade to a higher clocked Quad Core processor.

Overall, IMO, get the Quad core CPU, cuz it will performs better than the Duo Core since the speed difference is just 0.2?. Good Luck!

The prices are definitely mistyped. An upgrade from p8600 to Q9100 costs (on Dell Canada) about 900CAD, so IMO if you are ready to purchase, - rush! Such opportunity will not happen again.
If only I could wait until today.... :(

    P.S> where in Canada?
    I'm from Calgary.

If it's really that cheap then get the Q9100. They'll notice the mistake eventually and take it off, so hurry.

If they do fix the mistake, then go for the Q9000 anyway. You can overclock it on the M17x to 2.4GHz anyway in nearly all cases.

    Update

    I bought the computer.

Dell confirmed the order for the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Q9100 (12 Mo Cache ,2,26GHz,1066 bus frontal) for 'substract 150$'

the next day, they corrected the site 'add 1030$' for the same CPU

    Cheers!

Wow, you are one lucky guy.

Now you just need to overclock it to about 2.6-2.8GHz, and then the fun begins. :)
