Hey all, been awhile since I really am up to date on things.

Currently I am running a "legacy" aliewnare m15x with the 8800GTX, 4gig ram, 2.5ghz dual core penryn processor with vista 32. MW2 can drop a bit and newer games are starting to lag. I am just buying a house, and bought an expensive toy (used 2000 dodge viper gts acr) and so my options are limited on any other toys by my wife (which I don't blame her).

So buying a new AW m17x with dual 5870s is out of the question. I could easily do the 1200 BB with the 5870. The lower screen resolution is fine with me as that will allow native resolution easier on games instead of 1900 by 1080. But is the 5870 enough of a leap with the i7 740 compared to the 8800gtx 2.5ghz dual core? I am hearing things about maybe newer CPU/GPU's coming out in a few months. I can wait a few months if ASUS will bring a better GPU/CPU for a similar price point 1200-1500. Not sure if I NEED to pull the trigger now as I am mainly playing CS:S and l4d2...but even l4d2 lags during match play to the high 20's (which is a noticable drop from 60).

All the info I am finding about SB and 6970's are coming from AW and I just can't spend 3k on another toy. Any info is appreciated. Thanks all.

IMO, for the games you play, I think current AW laptops are more than excellent, if you're looking in that price range of $1200-1500, there should be a really great sale when black friday hits or cyber monday you'll have to see, and if its still out of your price range you can try to check out the Dell outlet as they have really really low prices of laptops there was a 20% coupon for the dell outlet a couple of weeks back and thats when I got my AW in my config for $1200 + taxes = 1300 shipped out the door and there isnt a single scratch on the laptop even though its refurbished, it really helps if you're on a budget :)

I second the outlet idea, just get a good warranty. Thats probably how I'll get my next AW!

LoL thanks for the advice. Many people were probably not understanding what I am talking about with the "1200 BB version" and I accidentially posted in the wrong forum. I obviously was just used to coming to the AW forums. I meant to post in the ASUS forums! But you do raise a good point about waiting for a black friday deal. I might just do that instead of going ASUS for an upgrade.
