    Hey,

just wondered if anyone has tried to negotiate down the price for the m15x over the phone or other AW models and how open the sale reps are to give discounts/throw in extra stuff?

From what I've read so far the only discounts they make are for students, but I might be wrong.

That's what i've also read, but that's only the "official" story. just wondering if someone has been lucky/has great bartering skills and got some extra stuff with his order :)

I would have tried i guess, but i am very poor at bartering. even when i have been in bartering countries such as thailand i am lousy!

Plus already ordered my m15x so a little late for bartering now when it is already being built :) didn't think of bartering actually while i was ordering, the thought just now hit me when i read about another guy getting a big discount on Dell XPS.

    Hi,

I tried to negotiate a discount when I bought my m9750 and simply asked if there was any discount on the item, but he threw in some 'extras' for me.

When it arrived I got a t-shirt, cap, visor and mug. I would guess the mug and the visor/cap was the extras hehe

If you dont ask you dont get....

THe cap is standard. And T-shirt used to be standard. The mug is a nice touch.

Hmmm... I may try my hand at a Public Sector discount through my Federation. This laptop might be a little too extreme for me to come the "I need it for work as well" line though. Unless I was part of the High Tech Crime Unit, which I'm not... yet. :(

I recall a few others also used the 'I need it for work' line when they worked at much simpler jobs.. Hope it works for you tho :)
High Tech Crime Unit hmm ? You sure would need a hardcore gaming laptop then.. to release all the stress of course ;)

I thought the only student discounts they do are the ones where you login through Alienware University or something.

Yeah, how good is the student discount? I am a full time student at ASU, and I didn't realize there was a discount available :(

The VA got a discount on my laptop by ordering it through GSA. But that was through Government sales which is a different department then the general consumer line. So unless you have a govt issued credit card or have a GSA account you are SOL on going through that avenue, but if you can go the GSA route you can do some bartering as well as having a 5% discount off an already lower price...

Came out ot a 200 dollar savings or so, but not having to pay tax and free shipping make a big difference.

they offer a 5% student discount in America ... and dell offer a 9% student discount in Australia...

if u really pushed it u could try and order the m15x via dell and get the 9%..

beside that i would call up and try and get Cheaper memmory.. free upgrades ... a bag..etc... it has been reported that people got stuff thrown in for free if they called up.. esp students and younger people.
