I wonder if Dell is just out of stock or what... That's pretty sucky if they don't offer a BluRay option anymore!

wow ur right ...i am sure glad i got mine when i did
-
Yes, Dell is having MAJOR part shortages and among the worst are the BD drives.
Instead of leaving the option available and customers calling and complaining, they just decided to take the option down. -
True. It was taken off the configurator some time ago. Joker is selling an M15x with Bluray tho.
-
+ 1 to Alienware, good move, they could have easily double their Christmas Sales by leaving the BD drives there but this is clearly a good move.

Huh, good thing I didn't want one. I just ordered yesterday and I thought that there were fewer options on the optical drive page than before.
-
Why not offer the option, but note that it will delay shipment? I don't get it?
Btw, are there any super multi drives with bdrom AND lightscribe? I never see that as an option anywhere. -

Is this affecting the M15x also? If so, I'm happy I got mine when I did.

You can still get it from HP.com for $330.00, If anyone is getting hysterical about not being able to get it and think it's the end of the world. lol...
Edited: Part #466803-001 -
The M15x also no longer has a Blu-Ray option.

Now that you mention it, I have noticed some slow downs while watching bluray movies. The audio and video will pause for about 3-4 seconds. The audio starts back up first and the then the video will resume. It doesn't resume where the pause happens though, it starts back up as if I just watched the 3-4 seconds that skipped. Sometimes it does it unprovoked, but I've noticed it mostly after I skip to another section in the movie, or pause and restart. It will also skip if I move the laptop around, which I assumed is common, like the skipping of old cd players if you bumped it, until they started implementing anti-skip technology. Is this normal operation of a bluray drive, or is this a malfunctioning unit?

I was looking to purchase an m15x today, but noticed that no blu-ray options were available. From what I've seen, this is only on the US website. The Canadian and UK sites still have blu-ray options. I chatted with the dell sales people but they're clueless or refuse to tell me anything about it.

I just talked to Dell. Both the bluray read-only and the burner are not available for either the M15 or M17 and they won't be for "sometime". He guessed some time next month or even March. He says it is because a factory somewhere burned down and the shortage is affecting a number of vendors laptops, not just Dell. The desktop Bluray drives are not having a shortage.
Bummer! -
at least we now know the reason
-
Any Idea when the blu ray burner option will be available?
Neither BluRay Combo or BluRay Burner are available for M17x anymore?
