See my sig, I do have quite a bit of experience with laptops. But I never bought a AW before. So here are my questions:

Are there any bloated ware, spy ware, norton, and etc... that we need to get rid off right away and probably need to reinstall windows to no lag?

Does it have a restore partition like any other laptops?

    How about MS OS disk?

    Thanks

We pride ourselves on not including bloatware, but only the bare essential programs that you need (drivers, webcam software etc.)

While there is no restore partition, we offer AlienRespawn or you can use the included OEM Recovery Disc for your respective OS.

I can confirm this, it's great that there's no bloatware. You can use it out the box.

Yes I can confirm this too. In addition alienware respawn is loaded on the computer which you can activate at the splash screen which will restore your computer. It is really nice not having to worry about bloatware. For example I copied my AW Vista disk and used that to install Vista on my HP (DON'T WORRY I USED MY HP VISTA KEY SO ITS NOT ILLEGAL) because I was sick of all the bloatware HP had.

LOL thats funny cause my m15x does have a recovery partition (which I did back in case of emergency) but I will vouch that when i received my m15x back in FEB it didn't have a single piece of bloatware.

Good job AW for not trying to make $30 from putting on bloatware in laptops. I hope they can keep it this way, or else the brand will be ruin.

btw, the AWrespawn disc is extra, right

I would be much worried about the quality control and customer service at alienware rather then bloatware.

Truth is better left said by m15x owners, don't you think.

I think the OP wants to get the m17. Which should not have any more or less problems then the OCZ whitebook users.

Plus the topic in the OP has to do with bloatware, not quality.

As for the M15x most of the issues have been fixed other than the hinge "problem" (Which no one knows what causes it). AW have recently been very proactive about this problem, allowing refunds or repairs. Also any GPU and CPU overheating issues have been solved a long time ago.

Key word "I", thus making it an opinion.

Since I didn't buy the Respawn DVD, what's the best way to image the drive?

I have been using Ghost for my m1710, but it doesn't work all the time when restore image from DVD. What other software (free) do you guy use for this process?

Yeah $50 more. Wondering If you can just use the vista recovery DVDs you can make from vista. (first thing I do when I get a new computer)

What is different about respawn then just normal recovery DVDs?

On Vista, Respawn comes pre-loaded on your sistem hard drive. You can initiate it when booting up by pressing F2 on the corresponding screen. So you don't need the extra Respawn CD/ DVD unless... (HDD gets damaged, etc... someone more experienced can fill this in).

Therefore you will be easily able to reformat your computer. When starting up Respawn, it has 3 options:

    1) System Restore to a previous state
    2) Full backup (on HDD) + System Recovery (reformat)
    3) Complete System Recovery (full reformat without backing up anything).

So that's the difference between Respawn and just a normal recovery DVD you can make. I found this piece of software extremely useful and it's very thought out by Alienware.

I will image the hard drive first, so that I can create my own respawn dvd.

It is neither the truth nor a troll, it is just an opinion.
