Go to alienware.com or alienware.co.uk to check them out now.

Area-51 sporting the 900 desktop series but laptops still running on 800Ms.

I must say for the hardware, one would be hard-pressed to call some of the middle-spec Area-51s overpriced.

    No 900Ms disappointing though.

    What do you guys think?

Only cards I can see for the 51 are 700 series and the Titan Z!

In regards to the lack of 900 series MOBILITY cards, it sucks balls.

My M18x R1 has been reduced to IGP. I had 6990M 2GB Crossfire before this, beast of a card setup.

Logically, I am awaiting the new releases so I can get the most for my money, the fact that yesterday was supposed to be a big reveal day, is such a let down. Where is the 980M? I am worried if I order a system with 880Ms the 980Ms will be released soon after I place my order.

Honestly, the waiting is painful. I want/need a new Alienware now, I may just been have to call them again and see if I can get a base system with 880M SLi for around £2000, I'd probably buy it then. Because even 880M SLi would be a big upgrade over the 6990M.

    Hopefully not much more waiting...

Apparently the UK website says they only have 780s, you're right. On .com (American) they have the 980, even 980 SLI.

Due to the amount of people complaining about the 880Ms I'd say you should just wait. A few problems as possible when you get your system is a good thing!
I feel your pain. My 780Ms are powerful cards but since the 980Ms have come out it's like comparing Pentium to Core i. Well not really but you get the idea :)

Funnily enough when I called the Dell UK rep I talked to last last week, he told me that if AW allows their 18 to support 980M officially then he told me Dell can swap my 700s for 900s for free. I'm not sure if he was making things up because he wasn't sure, or what, but if that really is true it's a sweet sweet dream.

I currently am trying to sort out my own problem where Dell China will not transfer my warranty from China to the UK so I cannot extend my warranty and it is expiring in just under a month. I'm hoping the 980Ms come out soon so I might as well buy a whole new system even though I've only had my 18 for three months because of all the problems I've had with it. Hopefully they'll give me a discount for that.....maybe.

On the U.S. site, they have GTX 980's (up to 3), GTX TITAN Z (up to 2), etc.

This Area-51 is a boss compared to the Aurora. Too bad it's so expensive.

The GPU score is a smidge higher, so for higher resolution gaming (say 1440p) you would get similar performance.

    2.7Ghz Turbo.............

The bloody M14x R1 had a faster processor.

Granted the Gtx860m isn't a terrible card and I do like the idea of being able to plug in a stronger GPU platform but that processor...........

Anyone know what it's going to be like as a bottleneck?

Phone processors and PC processors are completely different... in actual performance even the "weak" ULV processor in the AW 13 would obliterate your phones.

can a third party adapter be created to allow the game amplifier to work on older alienware's?

Probably so, but the questions would be how much that would cost and whether it's even worth messing with. The AW17/AW18 have no place to connect it except USB ports. That ain't gonna fly.

The M18xR1/R2 have ExpressCard, but that's a really tacky and less than elegant way to attach an eGPU, especially when the slot is right exactly where you would want to use a mouse. The connection really needs to be on the back panel or bottom to make it not such a mess to try to use. I've never seen ExpressCard slots on the bottom or back of a laptop.

Problem with the 13 is the hardware is already outdated. Tey waited 6 mo this to late to come to market with this. To be truly innovative and put AW back in the spot light as a leader among the gamibg community they should have figured out how to stick a 970 or better yet a 980 in that thing. Only saving grace is the external GPU.

So if I was forced to get one, definatley would get the lower res screen to ensure the mediocre at best 860m can play decently and then the external gpu with a nice 1440p monitor for when at home or the office...

It's very raw I play on laptop screens anyway even on my 18.. It might very well be a viable replacement for my 14 I use as my daily work machine...

At this point the competition is very stiff though... AW needs to be ground breaking like back on the early days of their inception. This will ensure their existence.

They need another m15x m17x ski success. Those were Alienware good days. They should actually have their line up as 13 ... 15 1 mxm... 17 2 mxm

Anyone who is interested in purchasing the AW 13 should wait until December.

The i7 starts to make it interesting, I just think the Iris + GPU in dock solution makes sense but everyone will want a different balance of performance plugged in and away.

Even the best i7 ULV will bottleneck all of the GPU's they offer, except maybe the GTX 760. The "Amplifier" is a joke. They should put this adapter on the Alienware 17 and 18, then perhaps it makes a bit of sense. (Even then, that's debatable.) The GTX 980 itself performs better than 980M SLI. So, that will definitely remain bottlenecked.

Unless Skylake does magic, I don't see any ULV (low-volage) CPU adequately supporting a desktop GPU.

So even if the Alienware 13 gets the i7 ULV it would bottleneck my 670? Was interested in getting this because I wanted to upgrade my desktop to a 970 and use the 670 along with this since my 670 is more powerful than the 870m in my GS60 and would be more powerful than a 970m.

I don't think you would have to worry about it with a 670. I was just referring to all of the GPU's they're offering with the Amplifier.
