Just wanted to let you guys know that Alienware just released some BETA drivers 175.80 for the m15x. These are different from the ones at laptopvideo2go and they don't require any registry "hack" to stop the downclocking or modded inf to install.
I've installed these and they are VERY stable. Also hibernation and sleep mode both works fine. For some strange reason the drivers from laptopvideo2go still downclock even after doing the registry tricks and .inf mods.
I recommend these AW drivers. They are located in your HIVE if you wish to try to them. better yet, here are links.
Here's for vista

Sweet! Will have to look into that. Thanks for the heads up.
-
it's about time... Good news there! Can I have my M15x back now AW? Pleaseeeeeeeee!!!
-
... and the XP version is the same as Vista - 175.80.
-
im thinking about the M20X next. -
-
would these drivers also help downclock the card when idle. i really liked that feature on the 175.63 drivers since it helped with the temperatures so much.
-
I'd like to assist in any way possible. Please feel free to reply with your email/account # and I will assist in any way possible.
Thank you,

-
Hope they release them for the m9750!
-
Have you checked your HIVE yet Snatcher?? ALienware-Mauricio said that a couple of new BETA drivers have been released for the m9700 m9750 m5500 m5550 systems.
-
JK... you are seriously screwed up... but terribly funny!
Ahahaha...
I want my laptop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The truth is... the letter I sent together with the laptop (8 pages) had such an extensive list of problems that I have my doubts whether they will actually find the "perfect" M15x. -
How's it going Milcs,
8 pages sounds a little excessive. I only sent 1 page with mine lol.

He used size 36 in Courier font. -
AW's probably testing the 175.80's right now. It'll be out when it's ready.
-
Hi,
I actually found the 175.80 driver quite easy. Just go to downloads and drivers and look in the mobile video category.
Hope this helps,
Gabe -
there are two different ones in the drivers section... any differences?
-
-
Do they have Vista x64 drivers yet?
N -
I can't see them on my UK Hive, can someone upload them somewhere please?
-
i think im going to need the driver uploaded too since i cant seem to sign into myhive
. i put the correct password and it just keeps bring me back to the support login page :/
-
-
thanks for the help. now i feel like an idiot for not pressing the submit button and keep on pressing enter
-
Hehe don't, it took me a while to figure that out also.
**EDIT**
Just installed the beta drivers (even though i am replacing my video card thursday/friday) and tested it with a few games and noticed my fps is about 10 fps higher. My 3dmark06 score was also higher from 9100ish to 9300ish. -
anyone completed any benchmark with this beta driver? what are some of the improvements with it?
-
Let's see some before and after benchies.
-
Just did some quick benches with the source engine from CS:S and 3dmark06.
CS:S:
stock AW drivers-165FPS max aa/af 1400 by 900.
New AW Drivers-171. Nice gain.
3dmark06 may have gone down a bit. My scores were always between 9900 and 10000k. This run on new drivers was 9916. THat could be that my computer was running for hours though. I am sure a fresh startup would deliever about 10k. New drivers seem like a hit because 3dmark is a bad indicator. I am interested to see Crysis benches and FEAR. Fear did NOT run on the stock drivers (that i know of). I would like to see how it runs now.... -
im getting down clocking after installing these..
i even ran driver cleaner before hand -
You are not supposed to.I do not have any DC'ing. Clocks are constant unless I switch to stealth mode.
-
no... i mean they are stuck at a lower clock speed
-
Personal experience; After downloading it, it doesnt DC anymore!!!!!!!!!!
, yeah i was wondering why in stealth it would DC, but hey i dont really use it often and im getting happy with my gaming experience right now.. Thanks AW i hope the final version come soon!! Wow, feel like there's a party going on in my m15x lolz
-
Awesome terek. That's is how the m15x is supposed to work. It dc's in stealth mode to save power.
@kittana - well sorry can't help you there. I don't know what's wrong with your lappy. Did you flash your BIOS yet?? -

8 pages with lots of pictures and graphs. Very detailed. So that no mistake can be tolerated.
And only one sided pages, of course! Not to make it too bulky. Ahahahaha. -

Good idea, maybe everyone with problems should send detaild reports with there machines, and if the list isn't completed send it to engadget etc. for them to announce... That might encourage all of the problems to be resolved.... Maybe... (",)

ive just checked my hive and its still showing the 167.55 driver to download which is what ive already got, and had since day one. im assuming theyve only released a new one in america?
-
like they always do... get it from the american support site.
-
-
Just checked and I still see the beta drivers in my hive. You're not missing anything if you have XP. It downclocks the 8800 card no matter what driver/registry cleaners you use. I went from 9k to 5k in 3DMark06. Went back to the older driver and all is ok now.
The Beta drivers for Vista, on the other hand, i hear are working well. I haven't put those on my Vista partition yet. -
strange about the downclocking...have never had an issue on my m15x. been consistently getting over 10k since i've received my laptop
-
You're using XP or Vista?
-
i'm using vista
-
Installed the beta drivers on the Vista partition.
Previous 3DMark06: 9028
New 3DMark06: 9142
There's still one more thing I want to try on XP before I throw in the towel - SP3 and then upgrade. Still running SP2. -
100 point difference. How's the gaming though, linuxguy??
-
Not quite sure what you're asking...we're talking about a 100 point increase to 9000 points. I'm no genius at math but i think that means around a 1% increase. I doubt i will see little difference. However, I think you said this driver fixes sleep and/or hibernation issues which are far more important. Haven't tried to verify that yet as I do 1% of gaming in Vista, 49% of my gaming on the XP partition, and 50% in Linux and here's what i've learned so far:
With XP, SP3 update and then installing the Beta drivers made no difference whatsoever. The Beta driver for XP downclocks the 8800M GTX to about 50-55% of it's capability in 3DMark06. In my opinion the XP beta drivers aren't ready for primetime.
Vista beta drivers are working great in 3DMark06.
Now, if you're asking how good i like this laptop for gaming then that's a different story. This S.O.B. kicks some big-time ass! I love this thing!! I play anything from Wolfenstein 3D, Doom 1, 2, 3, Quake 1, 2, 3 Arena, 4, Duke Nukem 3d in Linux, to Crysis, HALO, F.E.A.R, etc in XP. That's just the tip of the iceberg. Mainly a FPS gamer. The only game i play in Vista right now is Halo 2 and I'm not impressed. -
has anyone else tried running tf2 and getting around 30 fps. I heard that this is an issue from valve. I think people with 8800 GTS (desktop) are also getting this problem. I have this problem too
i just ran 3dmark 06 and got 9995 so i dont think there is a problem with my video card and i get temps of 80 - 83 in cycles. i run every other game fine but annoyed at tf2 since thats the game i play the most -
Yea, that's what I meant. The 3dmark scores are not as important as the gaming. Same here, the new Vista Beta drivers are pretty stable on my m15. Any game I throw on this beast just chews it up and then some...
Only Crysis the exception. Halo 2 is fun to play but I only wish it looked better like halo 3.
New Alienware GPU drivers m15x are released!!
