Anyone has a clue on when will Alienware replace some of their system? Im thinking of a new 15" with smartbay; same or iqual to the m15x but with updattted hardware and NO hinge issue. How much time does AW take to update their system? 1 year, perhaps?
-
no clue at all...but they did slash prices on their aging m15x...guess they might be waiting for stock to deplete...or the right moment to launch a new beast...who knows....right now no one has any idea
-
yup no idea. so sit back relax and wait
-
I just ordered my new M17. So, based on my past luck with these things, they should announce something new with staggering performance, becoming available the day after I get my now-no-longer-top-of-the-line laptop...
So, yeah, you're probably in luck, it should be soon, like a week or so. -
Hear that!!
-
I struggled with this thought for a while myself. Finally, I decided that all I would likely gain would be the an eSATA port and Mentevina/DDR3 Support. Perhaps a black chassis.
While it would have been nice to know I could upgrade to a quad-core CPU down the road, I would wager that the new model's base price will be right back up around $1500-2000. As for the hinges, I think there's been like one or two cases in the past few months out of who knows how many notebooks they've shipped. Also, AW seems be repairing the hinge problems under warranty, so... -
No new alienware laptops are coming out, until you hear directly from Alienware that they say so. Don't listen to rumors. If you need a laptop now, then get it. If you can wait, then wait.

electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
With the introduction of new GPUs, if gaming is a priority, I'd wait at this juncture. If AW lags with introducing models with the newer video cards (4850, 4870, GT280M, GT260M), someone else surely will.
On the other hand....
The M17 already uses the newer PM45 (Montevina) chipset, so that's a plus.
M15x is a bit long in the tooth, and yeah the hinge issues..... -
just what we need....another series of threads when "new" lappies come out about how "high" in price the AW systems are.....meh!
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Well, it wouldn't be an AW section without some of those....
$2199.00 for the W90Vp? Here's hoping AW latches onto a good OEM unit and offers it with the same excellent pricing of the M17.
$1677 for a WXGA+ Xfire config with 2g DDR3, 160gb 7200rpm and Vista Home Premium 64-bit, 1yr warranty. That's still an excellent price imho. -
I think maybe mid-late 09. Q3 methinks
-
When nehalem chipset for notebook is released, you may expect that. This can come around Q3 this year, but again, Alienware is always not up to date with their notebook lines, so Q4 maybe.
But otherwise, I cant find any reasons for releasing a new computer model in this tough economic time. -
-
-
If you're really looking for a reason to wait then wait for USB 3.0 (4.8GB/s)
might be released later this year. -
Hybrid graphics FTW!
Greetings

Doesn't make much sense for Alienware to switch the M15x and M17x to Montevina this late in the game so new versions likely won't come until after Capella is released in October.
-
From this thread, http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=355235 , It seems they are going to release new systems as soon as the 4870's become avaiable for the m17, so heres hope that I wont have to wait too long for news
. If not, then I'll turn my attention on the new sager np8662
.
Oh!! I have just faced a dilemma. Do you put a period when you end sentences with a smiley or just leave it like that? D:
BTW, If you are interested in knowing, my interest in the alienware Is the smart bay battery. And the shinny lights.... and the matte screen.... -

-
and to be honest, i dont think there will be a huge market of things taking advantage of the 3.0 for some time. -
*sry for this "unqualified" question*
Greetings

-
for a charger...not data thruput..but then again, maybe by 2012 there will be enough out there for the full use of the band spectrum for the 3.0
-
maybe waiting for windows 7 and i7 for notebooks xD
-
well, some companies have already showcased monitors using USB3.0 - full HD, 120Hz, no sweat. heck, theoretically, every single peripheral could switch to USB3.0 when it comes out. computers would ship with like 20USB ports, and there'd be no more hassle with VGA, DVI, HDMI, displayport, PS/2, D-sub, ethernet, e-sata, etc etc.
-
mobile i7 laptops are scheduled to release this year as well
-
Yeah, now we just need 10 Gigabit ethernet and internet connection, plus 1+ TB SSDs to boot! Wonder how much one can really dl if the speed of the SSD is the bottleneck...
-
why would you need a 10 gigabit ethernet? i dont know of any internet in the world that needs 10 gigabits of bandwidth. I maybe wrong here but i dont think 99% of the world uses 1 gigabit
but hey i'd take it if it came standard -
while i admire usb for the simplicity and ease of multiple connections to a varied device array, there will be devices that simply will not conform. and then what to do when another "hot of the press" solution superceedes the usb?
i would desire to see usb the mainstay for connections though. -
lol usb graphic cards. i know there are some designed but i m talking a fantasy world where "Hey i need a new card imma go to newegg and get a 360m gtx." usb card would be kinda simple but i agree with ryujin, is all about the money
-
I think they will slow down on Faster laptops/Desktop untel the market more stable and they can make money. Then work on having Quad core as a standard cpu and have Dual core cpu as low end and single core as mini laptops.
-
-
-
I'm fairly sure all i7 equipped laptops are $2999 or above, like the Clevo D900F
-
Alienware probably gonna release new laptop after HD 4870 and GTX 280M enter the market.
-
or they are waiting for calpella
-
-
lol really sqeezeing stuff together now ehhh?
-
Yea im not sure about the new alienware lappys but what else do you need that they dont offer? lol
-

a 15" notebook with intel skulltrail, dual desktop core i7 CPUs, triple-SLI GTX 290M, liquid nitrogen cooling, dual extendable gatling guns, a full keyboard with number pad, and motion sensing trackpad, an LED display with touchscreen, six 1TB SSDs in RAID, a battery that lasts 15h during heavy gaming, a titanium, completely waterproof chassis, diamond-bearing hinges, 37 USB ports along with VGA, DVI, HDMI, displayport, e-sata, and a sleepcharge port.
now let's stop dreaming and become reasonable again. -
Oh, and we need that for $899.99. With free shipping, via teleporter, so it arrives the second after you order it.
EDIT: Can you make mine a 17" model? -
naturally. did i mention it weighs only three pounds?
-
I want my Mobility HD 4870 GDDR5 now! or...seems like I will be turning towards the green team this generation. -
nice one whizzo i'd give a leg or 2 for a laptop like that
-
I'm willing to place money on the fact that the laptop industry is about to take a massive plunge based on the state of the economy. These huge laptop producers are relying that they sell "x" amount of laptops, and because people just don't have the money to get these high end laptops, these companies, such as Alienware, are going to be forced to drastic actions. Whether that be lower prices or pumping out a "new" and "improved" system.
This upcoming laptop season is going to show us the best deals that are ever to be had. My advice: wait. Right around late June early July, these huge manufacturers are going to get nervous: they just won't have the sales they need to survive. In order to get those sales, they are going to seriously slash prices on their flagships. In Alienware's case: The M17 and m17x are going waaaaaay down in price and there will probably be a new 15" system forced out at a ridiculously low price.
Well, that's my prediction at least, that's why I'm going to wait until the real deals start. -
the m17 just came out and is one of the best buys. the m9750 is getting cut and the m17x as well the m17 is not getting cut any time soon the m15x will stick around.....AW is a huge company and they are owned by dell so they get money from them and AW does millions of buesneiss a year they will be fine.
