I'm not a fan, to say the leaset. It should of been a 15, they already sale 2 different 17in.
EDIT*
P.S... Can anyone say OCZ whitebook?

steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
-
Price starts at 1399$... thats cheaper than the White book... and it looks cooler ROFL
-
***??? isn't that just a replicated M9750?!!!!
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
I care less about cheaper, that thing is freakin huge. I need a 15in, who knows, maybe in a few months Alienware will come out with a 15.
-
Thats Seems to me an OCZ with Alienware cover..
-
Looks huge lol. No AlienFX? Suckage.
Specs are nice though.
And it looks like AW think making powerful 15 inchers are too risky for them -
Wow way to steal the whitebook...
By the way this makes me think how outdated my laptop has become because of AW's repair time. Now my laptop will be worth less on ebay.
-
Any bets on when Alienware will be bringing this to the UK? As in, some time before April 2009?
-
It's called the Whitebook
AKA Alienware Blackbook -

There's no AlienFX :/ Too bad
-
Ugh you guys have no idea how pissed I am right now. My M9750 hasn't been working for almost 4 months (now they are trying to get a slave 8700GT and it is taking forever). and during that time two new 17" notebooks as well as new GPU's have managed to surface
Expect a LONG LONG writeup of my experience when it is finished. -
-
-
So does this crossfire solution beat 8800MGTX SLI?
-
yes nickbarbar it does 3870 in crossfire can score 15k easily on 3dmark 06 but in game performance can be the same or a little less then 8800gtx/9800gt but it could improve greatly as new drivers come out.
-
-
Why would anyone buy the M17x now?
Also, how silly is it that they even released the M17x which was always just an M1730 rebranded -
The base model in my country is €1300. A little cheaper even in European countries with less VAT.
That is a GREAT price for a 17" laptop with HD3870 mobility in Europe.
The base screen res is a little low (1440x900) but on the flip side, its a perfect match for a single HD3870.
I like it, its probably the best value gaming laptop in Europe at the moment. -
are there any benchmarks for games with a 3870x2? i hear its slightly worse then 8800gtx sli. but the 3dmark 06 for the 3870x2 is 3k more then the 8800 and is almost on par 9800 gtx sli. r the drivers just imature? because these cards seem amazing for the value
-
the m17 is such a good price/bang for buck its gonzo! its cheap then the ocz whitebook at xotic and it offers quad core plus all the other alienware goodies! GJ alienware! the only thing is aw pretty much killed all there other 17" notebooks lol!!
-
-
Hmm, I was almost certain that Alienware was going to rebrand the W840. After all, it is the successor to their popular m9750. What really amazes me is that price. When you compare it to XoticPC, the base price is lower (because the base specs are also lower), but when you bring it up to par with the XoticPC version, the price is within $20 of each other, plus Alienware has it's discounts. Very impressive. I did not expect this from Alienware.
-
-
ya the m17x is less powerful then the m17 (lol nice name?) new tech and cheaper. only thing is no alien fx or smartbay but meh.

I have already done a mini review of the OCZ Whitebook, which is essentially the same asa the m17, you can find it here, with links to many pictures.

Out on UK site now
56 Days for backlit keyboard LOL!
-
I dont know which to buy now, i want the one that is best for gaming, like crysis and farcry 2, but i dont know if dual 3870 mobilities beat sli 9800m GT's. Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?
-
-
Might have gone for the M17 if it was an option at the time. But pretty happy with my M17X. For the price and options the M17 seems like a better bargain.
-
-
I'm really NOT impressed by the M17 except for its price. You can get twice the performance at the same price as a m15x.
-
Its such a hard decision, i mean the 3870's maybe new, but the price difference plus the fact that the processor and RAM is superior in the m17 for a lower price, the only thing that is stopping me from making a decision now is the graphics cards.
-
-
M17 = worse looking than m17X ( only backlit keyboard 3 colours)
M17 = much less expensive and montevina, quad core, ATI and ddr3 Ram
Hmm ? -
m17, definitely. i'm wondering how AW will sell any more m9750s or even m17x's now...
-
-
Holy cow, that price is unbelieveble!
-
Tom -
-
Alienware is definitely throwing a curve ball at us by dropping prices on their m15x and introducing a system that is on par in terms of price with their competitors over at Sager
-
should be cheap, ati 3870 isn't even top of the line in terms of SLI anymore, 9800GTX and maybe the unreleased 4000 series will definitely top this. THis might just be a "until those are more readily available" config.
-
yup. you'd think they've been reading these forums and seeing everyone advise want-to-buyers to get a Sager, so they thought they'd up the ante a bit
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
I'm wondering if in this next week we'll see more changes over at AW.
-
I think the look of the M17 is cool. I would pick the M17 on price and the chassis alone.
