I`ve got the question to guys who already have their M17.

What soft besides OS comes M17 with?

    E.g. any disc burner?

fully operational, with oodles of features. you also get a copy of Cyberlink Youcam. beyond these two, no third-party software at all. no bloatware, trials, or anything (unless you selected a trial version of some AV software).

What do I do is Unbox the laptop, get on internet, let microsoft get all the updates, restarts, and Image the Drive.

That state of the AW laptop is the BEST state. No need to format, uninstall anything. In Desktop, only have recycle bin, My alienware QC proof and the cyberlink Youcam. that's it.

    Sorry, image the partition.
Copy the partition to another hd that I have installed, it saved me tons of trouble.
Out of the only few days I had the system, I already restore the partition twice. Because I was installing tons of crazy stuff to test and fix the heat issue, trying to install Vista32 so many times and fail then succeed but messed up the MBR badly, and I lost the option to restore from Alienspawn. Lucky me I prepare for it. Load the USB Linux thumbdrive with Image program, and takes 15 minutes to load back to first day out of the box and recovered the MBR.

So I highly suggest ANYONE to do that when you first get your system. I know you want to play the system asap, but that 10 minutes of imaging the partition at the beginning can save you a lot of trouble later on.

I use Macrium Reflect to image, there is a free version, and it allows you to create bootable dvd and usb.

You don't need any 3rd party image program if you have the Nero program, it has it.

And you can either burn it to a DVD/CD or Flash.

So why does everyone say that it got bad fps in that one thread? the thread about the ocz whitebook? It said it only got 26.8 fps or something, but if your saying it runs smoothly when the resolution is 1900x1200 and every setting is at very high, then why would they say it was running bad I wonder, unless I am missing something.

Could we see some benchmarks, Mike2011? I am playing Crysis at 1920x1200 at MEDIUM settings, and it's not too far from a slide show.

What else is holding you back from going for the m17? If you're just worried about new lappies coming out, then you will probably never get one.

Yeah I thought so actually. Funny thing is I did not even ask for it. After calling them to state the same prob was there after them having it twice and me repairing it twice the tech guy (Randall Jimenez. Nice Guy Actualy) said to send it back and then place an order for an M17 and he would deal with the rest. Sorted priority build and shipping. Rang me every two days to let me know the progress and even after I got it rang me to make sure all was good. And to think people say AW tech support is rubbish eh.

Does anyone here have any experience with configuring their M17 to be dual-boot with either Ubuntu or Windows XP?

I'm curious if getting the TV Tuner card working is possible with either of those OS'eses.

    Thanks for any info!

M17 supports 4850's i suppose is the main reason.

I class his bump as quite valid, 25% discount is good, and the power underneath its upgrade is pretty great.
