I just downgraded my M15x to XP since Vista was being retarded.
I downloaded all the drivers made a SATA Boot XP CD, everything works perfectly now except the sound card. I downloaded the driver "XP Audio Driver 5.10.0.5466 " from the Drivers section, now my laptop tells me that I don't have any active mixer devices avaialable. In my Device Manager I have Other Device - PCI Device with a yellow ?.
SO I am taking that is my sound card. Anyone know the correct Sound card Driver for this laptop. I don't want to call alienware cause it might void my warrenty.

    Thanks

How on earth would that void your warranty?

there was another thread that quoted an AW rep or the AW FAQ sections...or something like that...anyway, the facts given where that an OS does not void warranty, but if the unit has an outside OS other then what was installed, it is up to you to find all the drivers, etc...not AW.
if the unit needs to go back for repairs/upgrades, then you have to install the original OS that came with the unit when returning it.

I think since XP was added to the option list, that it's overtaken the Vista sales...

All us m15x Vista users, bought our laptops before that option existed, and got used to the suck.

I've had no problems with Vista at all. Zero. Vista Ultimate x86 SP1.

I havn't had many problems, but at the same time... beyond the fancy Aero interface with the glass-goodness... what GOOD is there to say about Vista?

Well, there is TCM compatibility with Vista. 1GB doesn't make a difference but I've heard that 2GB and 4GB are nice upgrades. Few more pluses to having Vista that I can't think of right now. It was made of fail initially, but SP1 and onwards, it's cleaned up its act.

I prefer Vista because it's mroe secure, there was a test on Vista and XP, they were both bombarded with virus etc. without any virus protection, just windows and Vista stopped getting infected because of the UAC...

    Xp however died...

I have also had no problems with Vista Ultimate 32Bit SP1, it's worked faultlesssly and hasn;t crashed yet (he says touching wood ) lol

Vista SP1 is much better than XP once you know all the little shortcuts.
The button that takes you directly to the desktop and press it again to go back where you were. XP you would have to minimize all you windows then find the one you had open (time consuming).

The windows key, start typing program feature is very good. You don't have to find the shortcut though your vast amounts of programs in your my programs, now just type the first 3 letters.

The Anti-Virus is very good, I intentionally downloaded a virus to see how it handled it. Windows defender came up and quarantined it automatically. Just wanted my approval to remove completely.

With 4GB of ram I have no problems with it being a memory hog. I can see a problem if you have <2Gb of ram.

I've gotten used to VIsta. IT's improved greatly since the beginning when it first came out.
