Hi all, this was mentioned in the M15x thread, but I wanted to get an idea of what is going on. It seems that a few folks are reporting that their new M15x is not coming with bluetooth. I would love some feedback from those who have received their new units to state if they have bluetooth or not and when they received their order. It is still listed in Dell's tech specs, hence my confusion.
-
also to clarify on mine:
the drivers listed are for the 370 bt card which should be under the left side of the palm rest for those willing to look. mine was missing. ill check my replacement and let you know about it. -
Thanks shadow.
-
disregard my vote.. my brother was on my account when i left the room
-
-
Mine got one.
-
Thank you for your input though!
-
one vote for a Canadian system with BT module in place and functioning without problems once I installed the driver: ordered Oct.12 received Oct. 20.
-
Edit: So far, it seems that it is US systems then that are having this "issue". -
just noticed this thread, yes my M15x came with a Dell wireless 370 bluetooth mini-card. and installed and working perfectly.
-
Thanks Biggy. When did you order, and are you located in the States?
-
My original EDD was 13th of Nov, ordered on the 28th of sept, actually arrived at UPS (where i picked it up) on the 23rd of oct.
My order was exactly what i asked for, only with additional AV software i was assured would not be loaded.
2 weeks in, been to one Lan party for halloween and it was the biz. Though i had not tryed the bluetooth until i read this thread. -
Thanks again Biggy. I am starting to notice a trend. It seems the bluetooth problem is only for the States, and it is for those who have ordered since Oct and on. Still awaiting word from Dell regarding if this is a supply issue, warehouse issue, or change in specs issue.

Bubbamel,
We're looking into this! I will post back here later in the day with an update.
I'm one of the quality engineers for Alienware. -
Pardon my skepticism nagshead, but IF you are a member of the Alienware team, then I would greatly appreciate your help in this matter. I for one, have a need for bluetooth, so if it is not a standard option anymore, I would like to have the option of adding it to my order instead of having a tech come by with the part. I would like to make my order next week and hope this will be cleared up by then. Thank you so much for you response and attention to this matter!
-
I ordered mine on the 30th, still waiting shipment
Im in mexico and i have noticed that the BT isnt listed in my build sheet, and it wasnt an option anywhere. -
Hi Bubba, me too, i would need bluetooth and it is listed in the techspecs, but not on the build sheet and i ordered 3 days ago
i think i need to call...??? -
As nagshead also mentioned, Dell/Alienware is trying to find out what is going on. I am sure it will be corrected soon.
-
Thanks for your kind words, bubba, but i´m not in the currently not in the US, so my unit will be shipped to me by the government
and then DELL has a looooong way to get me the card
but as you mentioned, obviously they are aware of the issue -
-
i ordered in US
but i´m posted outside for the next 3 years
looks like, that it is a US problem only, i could order in europe, but have you checked out the price
the charge almost the same amount in euro which it is in Dollar
check out the european websiteand also some things arent availabe, e.g. ssd
-
-
i think so too, because, calling them now, is, as you said, useless
i just wait and see what happens and some of my colleagues here are heading home for christmas, so the could bring the card with them after new years, so Dell and the Government dont have to ship around
for your explanation: i´m with dhs posted abroad -
It will take another day to have a final solution/answer for this. I plan to give a status update before 5PM central time today.
-
Nagshead, you´re the best
and as bubba already mentioned your help and concern regarding this matter is highly appreciated here.
Thanks for your efforts -
-
no but i never use bluetooth anyhow.
-
got some good updates on this.
All orders that are currently in production should have bluetooth installed by default.
if you call tech support they will dispatch the part to you.
for those that have already posted here in this forum, if you like, you can send me a personal message with your service tag and I can submit it to tech support for you. -
Great job on finding that out, and for going to the trouble of getting some answers.
Mine is (allegedly) due to arrive tomorrow, so I'll post my findings when I get it (U.S. customer)
-
Hopefully, if Nagshead is correct, I won't have to worry about my M15X not having bluetooth. -
Ordered mine last Thursday, the 29th October. It was in production until literally about 2 hours ago. I still don't have tracking numbers, but Dell have updated the order status page to show an estimated delivery date of tomorrow.
Good luck
-
I wanted to bump this thread for those who will be receiving their new units in the next few days or so. Thank you to everyone who has participated in the poll so far.
-
I ordered mine today via phone call and I asked the Rep about the Bluetooth issue. I said I was concerned because the website listed it as coming with Bluetooth but the spec sheet did not, he had to double check but he said it should arrive with a BT card installed. We'll see though, if it comes and doesn't have it I'll just call or email him directly.
-
If you do not mind, keep us posted here once you do receive it.
-
i ordered mine 3 days ago, so i think, i´m on the save side
nagshead, thanks a lot for digging this up and care about customers -
hey bubba, i just checked the dell site. it now shows the BT mini card in the list when you are configuring the M15x.
unfortunately its not listed on my replacement laptop thats in production... -
Nagshead, if you had anything to do with the changes.... thank you!! -
My M15X came with the 370 bluetooth card as well. Works just fine.
-
I have another update on this.
What has happened is there was no option to order bluetooth from the website. If your system didn't come with bluetooth, you weren't charged for it. You just never got the option to order one. We feel this was a mistake on our website and to correct this, customers that were not given this option can call tech support and we will send you one for free.
Unfortunately, the orders that were already being built that did not have the bluetooth option at their time of order are being built and shipped without the bluetooth.
As someone already noticed, we have added bluetooth back on the website so if you ordered today and going forward, you should have the option to order it with bluetooth. I believe it's included by default for now, but the plan was to make this optional. They are still working out details, but we wanted to get this issue contained ASAP for new orders. Every region does things a little bit differently and that's why this issue appears to be specific to the North America orders as others have already noticed.
So to repeat, customers that were not given the option to order bluetooth can call tech support and request a free bluetooth module. It's limited to one per service tag and they are keeping track of which systems didn't have the option to order it.
I regret that I cannot continue to take tags from this forum - I did get two tags that I have forwarded to tech support directly and they should be sending them their bluetooth modules.
enjoy your new systems. I have one of these myself and it totally rocks. I appreciate the way this community identified the problem (nice poll Bubbamel), although we also got notified of this from our tech support agents.

Uh-oh, I think I'm the victim of a MIA bluetooth card. I see the option in my BIOS but nowhere under Device Manager do I see the hardware. I'm opening up the beast's belly now...wish me luck. I cannot believe Dell would ship such a high-end, high-quality laptop w/o a Bluetooth card. The "old" Alienware w/ their 10 step build process & verification would never have missed this. Guess that's the price to play w/ the big boys! More to come...
-
hey nagshead
great, thats a word, BUT, what is with customers like me, ordered few days ago, no option for bluetooth, but unit is in production and ETA is 21.11. ??
call the techs ? i dont know the service tag number -
Edit: good news at least is that Alienware found the problem and is willing to correct it. -
.
The other thing you can do is wait for your system, then call in with your service tag and they will mail you one for free.
There is a detailed quality control process to the orders. It's not as simple as you might think to just ask them to add it to the order. Orders are taken from the website and the error here is that the website never gave you the option to order it. these are built to order systems.
I'll be monitoring this situation over the next month on our forums and I'll be coming back here periodically. -
mine came without the bluetooth too, and installing the driver didn't enable it.
am trying to get thru tech support now, been on hold for the past half hour.. must be a friday. i ordered mine on oct 20, arrived on nov 4th.
will update once i get thru =) -
Bubba,Nagshead
Thanks for your advisethe problem i have, as i said, i ordered in US, but i´m posted outside by the government and they take care about all my orders. i just get everything shipped to an official adress and then they send it to me around the world
its great, i know, but in this case, i just have to wait, as you said, bubba.
nagshead, i will definitely not reorder, because i´m sitting here in the evening after work and i´m bored to death and want to GAME
BUT for that, i do not need bluetooth
and it the unit is here i call the tech´s and then one of my colleagues will bring it after christmas and neither DELL nor the government has to ship around a bluetooth card -
BUBBA, i just saw your signature
congrats, finally you decided !!!
welcome back to the AW owners:wink: -
Edit: Ok, with the exception of the ram speed..hehe.
Double edit: Thanks again to everyone responding and voting in the poll. Don't forget, if you do NOT have a bluetooth adapter, call tech support. They are aware of the problem and will send a tech out real quick to get one installed for you! -
yup, we know whats good for us
had some money left, thats why i ordered the 1333i know, wont recognize it, but i dont care
so lets sit down and wait, you know the unit already, but for me its new and i´m totally curious
maybe i do an unboxing vid -
Well, I got my laptop today, but I can't figure out if the bluetooth card is in it or not...
Is there any way to tell from within Windows? Or do you have to open the laptop up to even determine if the card is there? -
hey Mad Hatter
when did you order ? you might be one of the lucky ones, like me, without bluetooth.
look in device manager and check if there is a bluetooth card
if not, than get your service tag number and call the tech support, they also know, which ones dont have a card inside
