Fresh out of the box, and I run 3D Mark 06 and I get 8.8k?! My documentation indicates 12.6k, but realistically, I was expectly perhaps 11.5k on my first run but certainly not 8.8!

    SM 2.0: 3.7k
    HDR/SM 3.0: 4.0k
    CPU: 2.3k

    Details are as follows:
    - Stock Drivers
    - AA/ASO = Off
    - Texture = Performance
    - X-Fire = On
    - 1280 x 1024

If it helps, when I clicked on the X-Fore diagnostics, I get only a "1". Ist this right? What am I doing wrong here? Specs. are in my sig.

Looks like it's only seeing one 3870. Sure you've got the Crossfire enabled correctly (I have never done this before but it sounds like the problem)?

I have a feeling xfire is the problem. How would I go about troubleshooting this? The xfire tool in CCC is useless. All I get a is a "1", but no "2".

you may want to compare the rez settings they used against yours.
it seems they use different settings quite often compared to what posters here do and that causes differences such as you have.
    just a thought.

Thimk, check your CCC and make sure "Power Play" is set to Max performance.. also make sure Vista is set to high performance. Check that, if they aren't..then enable them. Then get back at me after another 3dmark run :)

Thanks a bunch guys. I will try to enable AI and see how it runs this time. It's an old habit of mine to always turn AI off.

The good new is that there is no tape on the heatsink, and I also physicall have two 3870's

Just under 12k. I'll do some mods, I can prolly get it up a little more.

EDIT: What would be the difference between Basic and Advanced AI? Anyone?

The advanced AI will be more advanced than the basic AI. The basic AI is just very basic in nature and not very advanced at all. I hope this has helped. :D

lol.. since I chimed in and stepped on someone elses toes before, lemme step on the Master of the Obvious' toes here.. Advanced AI enables the driver side tweaks, implemented by ATI for that particular driver package. Basic, is just that.. Basic driver package, without all of the tweaks enabled. Essentially, it is exactly what godspeed said.

    From CCC help contents:

    ATI Catalyst™ A.I.
ATI Catalyst A.I. makes use of AMD's texture analyzer technology to optimize performance in 3D applications, while maintaining or even improving image quality. It analyzes individual textures as they are loaded to determine the best and fastest way to display them.

ATI Catalyst A.I. includes application-specific detection for various games and games engines such as Doom 3, the Half Life 2 engine, Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal Tournament 2004, Splinter Cell, Race Driver, Prince of Persia, and Crazy Taxi 3.

    Setting ATI Catalyst™ A.I. Settings
From the Graphics Settings tree, expand 3D.
    Click Catalyst™ A.I.
If necessary, clear Disable Catalyst™ A.I.
Click and drag the slider to the desired setting.
Use the Standard slider setting to achieve optimal results without impacting performance. Use the Advanced slider setting to achieve even better results with minimal impact on performance.

Note: Changes to ATI Catalyst A.I. settings are not shown in the 3D Preview

    Hope this helps

    Cheers
    Luke

Just hit 12,010 in '06 and I'm pretty content with that; it was what I expected anyways. I don't know what kind of state the system was in when AW reached 12,600 as noted in my documentation, but whatever, it's all about the games.

What settings did you have your laptop on? I've only hit 11,800 and I believe we have the same configuration?

Mipmap settings were set to Performance, AI was set to Advanced, AA + ASO = Off, disabled aero and used the Windows Classic theme and ended some random processes.

    It was run on 1280 x 1024.
