I am thinking of purchasing the new M17x but I was thinking of buying some C2D possessor first and then later upgrading it to the C2Q (QX9300)

I read with Asus W90s you have to get lower end C2Q model (Q9000) in order to support any other quad core possessors, is that the same case here with the M17x?

I believe they are all socket P so I think there would be no difference but I still want more definite answer.

No, not so in the M17X.

Get any processor you want initially and install a QX9300 later.

Is the cooling system the same for all C2D and C2Q processors?

Where do you get a QX9300 for $300? Might be an Engineering Sample (sSPEC QGNG)?

Or OEM version. The official OEM verison has an sSPEC code: SLB5J.

Are you sure that their is only one mobo supporting both C2D & C2Q. HP, for example shipped the HDX18 with different mobos depending on processor ordered. This made upgrading to C2Q impossible if you originally ordered with C2D. I suppose their will not be a third party around to offer a barebones whitebook version of the M17x as was the case with the M17. :(
