    Hi all,

I have just ordered my M17x and am awaiting delivery. It was a toss up between the Rock 840 and this one. The Rock had a better spec for the money but something about the M17x is intoxicating. The community seems fairly established as well.

I only have one regret so far. I only bought the single GTX 260. My budget was under £2000 and the SLI would have pushed it higher. Im kind of annoyed with myself as Im a big gamer but Im hoping the sharp screen, the B-Ray and good CPU will compensate.

Ive noticed Eurocom sell mobile G cards, so I may have a crack at a manual upgrade but open heart surgery on something this expensive worries me

    Anyway the 8th is D-Day.

    Tx

What a funny coincidence. I got an e-mail last night and my D-Day is also the 8th.

I also got a single 260m, not much regrets really, I'm a bit funny in the eye where that finer detail is kinda transparent to me, so I'm very easy going in terms of settings/graphics.

As others have said, a single 260m can take on most things. And I don't always play/own the latest games so ... speaking for myself I think I'm sorted for a while. However if you must absolutely squeeze everything out then perhaps you'll hit a wall somewhere.

Yup, but I thought where does it end? Perhaps those SLI's would benefit from a faster CPU. Then Im knocking on £3000. So I stuck to my budget and hope that the 260 is ok with running Arma.

Otherwise Im going to have to upgrade in the future.

I'm hoping by the time I purchase a laptop after I bog down the M17x I would be in a place of my own with a desktop. This is the reason I've been using laptops.

the 280's with be maxed with a 2.4 dual core so a 2.8 that is offered with this setup is more then needed.

im sure you will be happy, but for the money in the UK you could have done better if i am honest (im not going to lie to you)

But then after all the problems with AW in the Uk I have lost the faith and I left AW :)

    Good Luck with your machine

I have the single 260 and I find it plays games fine, only reason I would want a second card is for future proofing. I just install CoD 5 last night and it will run it at 1440x900, max graphics, 4xAA and VSync enabled at 50-60 fps. I think that is pretty decent :D.

Well I have dual 280's and I can get Arma 2 to run just fine, 1920x1200 max settings w/ no AA at 30-40 fps (turning down settings doesn't seem to up it much.....)

I also have a friend who has an Asus with a single 260 who can play Arma at his max resolution (1366x768) at medium/high settings pretty fluently. Your computer will have a faster processor and RAM though, so you should get better results than he did.

I have played Arma II on it, not sure what my FPS was but it ran pretty smoothly at 1440x900. I didn't like that game too much, it is kind of confusing for my simple mind :p.

I would stick with the single 260 until you find you can't run most games you play at decent settings, then go out and buy a second 260 when they are more readily available and cheaper.

Yeh I'm thinking of doing the same thing. However for some reason I'm more paranoid about opening laptops over desktops. I dunno, they seem more fragile :p

Well opening this thing up feels me with dread. If I ever do, I'll go for broke and add a CPu as well. £2000 was a mental barrier that I didnt want to break, as essentially its just a toy.

I watched both of The Moo's DIY videos. I can hear the Dell rep saying," But Sir, you actions have invalidated your warranty".

Mwhahahaha, well switch everything back before calling or even mentioning it. (But it's not that a big of a deal... even I did it and some more new guys here).
Although it's very imaginable that it's a mental barrier. If you don't DIY you'll have to pay. ;)

Im toying with the idea of sending the delivery back when it arrives and then have them re-send an SLI config. It still works out cheaper than ordering one from Eurocom, plus I dont have the hassel of opening it up.
