im interested in mainly the m15x with the x9000 cpu and 8800gtx
is the heat and audio issues still happening ?
what im more interested in is the m17x so i can have raid-0 , first i would buy the basic drive and save for a pair of top of the line ssd's and raid them,
so can u purchase the extra mounting hardware required for the second drive seperately
is the 17x much bigger than the 15x? and does it suffer from the same audio and heat issues even though it should have a higher cooling capacity
also what is the gfx slot e.g. what version of mxm is it and is it upgradeable?

I don't think the m17x has suffered from the same m15x issues. Not positive though. And I don't think m17x users have had the audio popping issue with the new X34 BIOS.
There have been comparison pictures on someone's review, I think iElSayed's review of the m17x. So check that out if you want to see the difference. -
yeh iv'e seen the difference mate i just thought it would suffer less with the issues being that it is a bigger chassis
what i really need is a laptop in 15.4 form factor with dual sata drives that can be raided and a modular bay which can take another drive dvd burner or battery and esata and hdmi are a must
as i play my games on my 52"lcd @1080p the hdmi out would be ideal
so hard to find the right machine i may have to go for the 17 incher even though im not that keen on them because of size -
oh and the possibility of a quadcore cpu to drop in would be nice i have upgraded laptops for many years and would like one eventually
maybe wait till i see how this nehalem stems out -
-
its not a small form factor its mid sized actually , and yeh ofcourse i want alot out of something im going to spend thousands on , would'nt u ?
-
i don't think there's any 15.4" notebook with two hard drives and an interchangeable bay. not to mention esata and hdmi.
-
see whizzo's comment below....
-
even the m17x cant use the smart bay battery so a laptop with 2 hard drivers, where you can interchange for cd drive, hard drive, and battery doesnt exist. even the interchanagable function can barely be found on laptop. i think only dell and aw has them?
-
The M17X is not for everyone or is it perfect. But i am very satisfied with the performance of mine. Have had it for about 6 weeks now and no problems at all.

if u look at my very first post i said i am willing to look at both options of form factors!
15.4 preferably, 17 if need be!

not to mention esata and hdmi ? i think you will find many laptops in the 15.4 category with both of these just maybe not two hard drives
and who knows what they will make , look at the sager machine with 3 internal drives and 2 gfx cards and a dvd rom in a 17 inch package , it will be a beast of a thing but they managed it -
-
that i know its not much the battery im bothered about and im sure in time they will release it if the chassis has the battery terminals in the bay im more interested in being able to change modular bays and boot them with different opereating systems without resorting to tons of partitions
-
the m17x doesnt hae the battery plug so it wont be released.
you can boot off the smart bay hard drive so if you want you can have a couple of them each with a seperate os. -
so - if i wanted say 64 bit on one and 32 on the other it could do this? is there no corralation between the OS and BIOS? -
there shouldnt be a correlation between os and bios. if you try to install a different bios in your m15x you might make the m15x not work anymore until you replace the bios chip. you can install 64 bit on the smartbay drive and just press f12 and then choose to boot off the smart bay drive. but remember i think you need the cd drive while you are installing so replace the drive inside the m15x. install windows. then take it out, put back the drive you took out and put the new one into the smartbay.

i think i just got lost.....
-
umm ok let me number the steps on how i would do it
1) Take out the hard drive thats already in your m15x and put the dvd drive in there.
2) Put the Hard Drive you want to install whatever OS on it, into the M15x hard primary hard drive area.
3) Install the OS
4) Remove the Hard Drive and put back the primary hard drive.
5) Take the hard drive you just installed an os onto and just put it into the smart bay hard drive cage.
6) stick that in and press f12 for a list of options from what you can boot from and then just select the smart bay drive.
thats how you would boot from the smart bay drive or at least thats how i would install a os on the smart bay hard drive. you can easily remove the hard drive in the smart bay cage if you want to use the one thats included in your smart bay drive cage. -
aha....thx exiled....better now
so - one could swap from 32 to 64 with a bit of ease then....
