Because that's not good enough..
-
GTA IV is a horrible port and there are many problems and bugs in the PC version.
Try the newest driver from nVidia is about all I can suggest with it. -
You should return it and get an m17x, sager 9280, or falcon northwest fragbook drx.
-
it is enough to play GTA 4
go away Cashflow....
GTA 4 is a Poor Port from a console which means it need ALOT of CPU power. The x9000 should be good. Try updateing to the most recent patchs and upgrade your graphics drivers.
if that has already been done tell me what Res you are running @
EDIT: most games use all your video memory .....also it seems you have alot of the settings turned up to utilize all the memory you may have to turn some of the settings down in order to Play GTA 4.
You did buy a Super nice machine but you also bought a 15 inch with only 1 GPU if you wanted to play high detail games you should of got a 17 inch with SLI other wise you will have to turn settings down on your m15x -
.
-
have you updated your graphic driver? What is your current OS? is it up to date? What about updating your directx?
I have a GTX280m + p8400 and I can run it @ 1680*1050 with very high settings and sliders to middle with a slight lag. I honestly think it may be caused by a downclock or driver issue. -
i jus got my machine 3 days ago and i think the graphic driver should be no problem. and my OS is home 64bit, directX 9.
-
Mr.moo...in the benchmark test my Cpu usage almost 98%, but the Ram memory usage 35%
-
-
Sometimes you think the graphics driver might not be the problem, when it is.
My current desktop was crashing constantly on GTA IV with the latest drivers, but reverting back to older drivers stablelized it, while my m17x needed the latest drivers to run it at decent fps.
What resolution are you trying to play at also is a factor, what is the resolution set to? -
Performs BEST is the Keyword it still runs great i played on high details with a t9400 !
Ken you need to upgrade your drivers from laptopvideo2go.com
your using AW drivers which work but they are not as good as the Newest ones out.
Your CPU will be maxed out on this game it takes ALOT of CPU to run. What resolution are you running the benchmark @? -
-
Sorry for late reply guys. I try my resolution 800x600 and everything set to the lowest setting but it still not working. i can fully playable Left 4 Dead for max setting. i got a same problem today about NFSU..so lag!! but i can play NFSU Max setting fluently when i jus got the machine.
-
i can play GTA IV on my system without any problems at native resolution 1440x900 and all settings around 25 (shadows at 0 cuz they're ugly). easily 25-30fps.
-
dhoang417...i will try wat u said later when i got home.
The Moo... i downloading the driver from Nvidia GeForce Release ver.186.03 for Notebooks. is this work for me or i jus use the link that u posted? -
M15X is a piece of trash.
-
-
Going from the P9600 to QX9300 was like night and day.
-
personally from what i have read i wouldnt expect that game to play on anything other then medium settings on that machine
it eats pc's alive
Best advice? buy a ps3 -
haha, you guys have funny and useful comments.
But here is my two cents: update your GTA 4 and graphics driver (186.03 is good) then make sure you are booting in external video card mode. After that do another check on other drivers that might slow down the system. Don't forget that to check out this awesome gta 4 forum too!

thanks anyway pencilcheck, i will try it later.Well yesterday the game worked perfectly when i turn off the "stealth mode". but after played 20-30min the system hang with an error and automatically restart the window. i tried so many times to restart the window and play again but the problem remain the same. i can play most of the game but only GTA 4. Does it mean is the only problem with the game??
-
not wanting to be too inquisitive, but you are using a legal version of the game, right?
-
yes original DVD i bought
-
have you tried reinstalling?
-
Not yet. i think i should try reinstalling and update the version of game.
-
I also have recently purchased GTA 4 and haven't had any of the problems you mentioned.
You have to have Rockstar Social Club and Games for Windows Live running in order to access multiplayer. Have you tried starting these programs with the game?
And as others have mentioned, try updating GTA4 to the recent patches, here is a link to where you can download patches for GTA4

i got the 2 program that u mentioned but i usually play offline. and thanks for the link that u posted.

try monitoring your system's temperatures while gaming. you never know, might be an overheating problem.
-
Um, I have a 2.5Ghz Macbook Pro with a 512MB 8600M GT, and I can run on high-ish settings at 1280x800... not sure what's wrong with your setup there.
-
Well guys, i figured it out wat happened with my system....i can fluently play GTA 4 in charging mode but after i pluged out the charger everythings changed...the sysytem hang..the video lagged even in lowest setting. This is also happened in NFSU. could anyone pls explain to me?
-
oh. well... duh. when on battery power, the system automatically downclocks to preserve battery life.
-
i see. So does it mean i cant play game on battery mode? or i need to setting something in AlienFusion?
-
practically speaking, it's impossible to play demanding games on battery power.
-
o i see. thanks Whizzo

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
so all this time you were in stealth mode and plugged out????
-
and my knowledge r limited. anyway i will go for M17x cos M15x really dissapointed me..
Btw even i turn off the stealth mode and plug in the charger my fps still not stable with 20-30 and sometime 10-15 with medium setting. -
but that's just because GTA IV needs a really good computer to run it. i run it at native resolution, all settings around 20 (no shadows) and get 25-30fps.
-
My cousin with the spec which is lower than me but he got no problem to playing GTA 4. i did everthings such as update the graphic driver and the game version...but the game still hang and restart the window after played 30min. -
for starters, make sure your AC cable is plugged in, you're not on stealth mode, and your vista power setting is set to "high performance" (click on the battery icon in the taskbar to change this). my settings were (i uninstalled GTA IV this morning) about 22 (out of 100) for each setting, except shadows at 0. resolution was 1440x900, with no AA or AF.
-
-
yeah, just set everything to maximum performance in Alienfusion (which i believe is just a GUI for stuff you could change just as well in the OS' own power settings).
