Honestly... AW is a really sad joke! Who could tell that the M15x would turn out like this. First the GPU, now the CPU. This is simply put, horrible construction. They decided to cramp all high fancy gadgets inside of a 15.4 laptop, without giving a damn about making them work stably. Now I'm pissed off...

Sad but true, have exactly the same feeling about my m15x right now...
I'm so missing a gfx card that fills the gigantic gap between the 8600GT/8700 and the 8800... The 8600 is too slow atm but the 8800 too hot for a decent 15,4" sized laptop. A nice card that scores about 6000-7000 3dmark06 and produces moderate heat would be perfect! But I don't see anything like that in the future, maybe mobile HD38xx series? -
Milcs look at my pics in the other thread. (Help from M15x user.....) I did a comparison shot from Revision 3a to revison 2b of the thermal heatsinks. 2B is considerably much larger.
Maybe all we need is the heatsink updated. Only time will tell though. I brought this up some time back. BUt it seems it must have slipped through te cracks till now.
I even mentioned this to my Critical Issues tech. Sad thing was when my system came back from repairs, it had the exact same Heatsink in it. So all they did was replace my CPU. Guess they never took me serious about the size difference of the CPU heatsinks. lol...Well let's hope they listen now. -
what other thread?

That one:

You are right newfie, maybe they just need to update the exhaust system... But still, no matter what, if even Crizzler has this problem, this is really bad design and it's unnaceptable they are sending laptops built like this to their clients. It's absurd. -
Agreed... It's really infuriating to see all the m15x problems that continue to crop up. I originally bought a m15x to get away from Dell and try a boutique laptop for once, but sadly my experience has only driven me back to Dell to purchase yet another laptop. (my 5th)

The keyboard and looks are just way too BA looking to stop people from buying. i am wondering if they tested this product at all before the release of them. I can only imagine what the m17x will be like. I hope alot better. it sucks too cause they had built up a really good rep from the m9750

the m17x doesn't have the pipe lighting (that i now of) around the lcd panel so i'm sure the screen will feel more solid. It's also thicker so i doubt you'll get the weak points around the smartbay and ethernet port. From my understanding, the cpu and gpu not only have more room to breathe but they're also pushed further back in the case and closer to the vents so the cooling should be better.
I would think that a lot of problems we're having with the m15x is going to be worked out of the m17x... probably not all but a good bit of them. Too bad i don't want the 17" monster. -
haven't got round to updating the bios & driver yet doing it today but just to clarify is the best driver for the 8800GTX the 167.55 driver which is on my Alienware Hive page?

bump.......

That why I went for the M17X. I can look at the geforce 8600 and go ok this is good for now but I will upgrade in a few months. But I want the reviews to show facts.
My view was wait and see if I had dual 8600 vs my old laptop and it works good I will be fine. If I see the M17x having the same problem on the 8800gtx I would not upgrade and I dont waste money. -
Pretty much brought my mood to a better level after reading the "why you shouldnt buy the m15x" thread. Mine shipped today, the wait is a killer
