I decided to upgrade my drivers that I had with my 8700m GPU in my m15x from the old 154.xx drivers to the latest ones.
I tried the 177.89 drivers, they gave me an increased 3Dmark06 score of about 1000, but I seemed to be getting lower frames in game? I'm a Counter-Strike Source gamer, and I used to hit 100-150 FPS in game, after the upgrade, I was hitting 50-80 frames. This is really frustrating!
I also tried using 177.83 drivers, which some had said to be the most powerful and stable ones, still same issue...
Another thing that I noticed, I had the 177.89 drivers installed for about a week, when I ran the video stress test within CS:S, i got about 50fpsthen right before i changed to 177.83, i got 107fps!!?? why and how is it so inconsistent. Since then I was never able to hit 107FPS again...
Any help would be great! thank you!

try updating your chipset driver too or any other driver updates you have

I've been using the beta drivers for the 8800m gtx that u can download from the AW support site, you want the beta driver my 3dmark jumped by 650 points. i did experience some frame rate drop in Assassins Creed but by far the driver is more stable as i was having issues with the old one. http://support.alienware.com/Suppor..._processed.aspx?os=WV&cat=2&manu=29&item=1073

v175.80 seems rather outdated... heck, there are newer WHQL drivers than that!
-
But is it normal to get lower frames with newer drivers? i thought it would be the opposite, i thought it should give u better performance and graphics...
Thanks for ur reply -
I do understand the whole stability issue, but i'm sure sacrificing your performance shouldn't be the solution to that. -
With the new drivers in my m17x I'm receiving higher fps but a lower benchmark score. Just thought I would add since I mentioned this in another forum. I would like to find out what is going on.

i think veedub has the 8700m in an SLI config and the drivers he is referring to are the ones that where released from nvidia and are WHQL but are only for SLI configs.
