Just wondering if anyone has any info on when the next refresh will be. If there are going to be new models anytime in the next 3 months, I may just end up waiting for it.

i believe the average wait time for a new model would be 2-3 years, if you follow all the previous trends when they bought out new models.

Because the architecture of the i-core cpu and c2d are completely differant and no new BIOS would have changed that the fact that a c2d and i-core are incompatible. Not to mention the whole dpc latency issue.

i think he wants core i7 to work in his nvidia chipset with the integrated gpu (basically r-1) through a bios update? I'm confused.

I'm thinking that the new model will probably The All Powerful M17. since there were previous versions of the M17x and M15x.

Although a refreshed M17 does sound good, I don't see it happening. The M17 was powerful, but was intended to be a budget machine. The price on the M17x is pretty competitive, especially with all the discounts Dell puts up.

I don't really see a big refresh like we just did for the M17x. Maybe cards, but I strongly feel these will be upgradeable.

The next refresh will have to be the M11x. I really hope at least.

It's not official but since other brands start shipping gaming laptop with the 5870's, AW won't have much choice but to be competitive.

A new Nvidia GPU is supposed to arrive in late March, early April according to some stuff that was mentioned at CES by some Nvidia guy.

Early May makes it way out there. It would not make sense for AW to wait so long.

On top of that ATI has the edge right now with that card which the may lose in March when Nvidia releases their new GPU.

ATI must push all OEM to integrate their new GPU the 5870 as soon as possible.

Lastly, at CES Nvidia and ATI mentioned they would have major avaibility for their new GPU by end of February for ATI and end of March for Nvidia.

I believe the M17X R2 will get the new GPU in the next 30 days at the latest.

Do not go by this because most computers are being made with blu-ray and m17x does not have it anymore. Called again today. I am waiting will i can get blu-ray drive then I will make my order. I am not paying 3,600 for a computer that I can not get what I want.

Hey can you change the keyboard to different colors besides blue on the blk, talking about the m17.

I am disappointed at the 4870 only gpu option right now. it is main reason I have not place the order yet.

Going to try wait few weeks for possible 5870s ( and maybe usb3 and blueray be include by that time, but those 2 are not as important as the next gen GPU for me)

I just know once I place the order right now, by the time I receive it, new GPU 5870s be out lol !

come on bring out 5870s and I am ready to spend the $5k!

I'd be a bit apprehensive about buying the first gen of 5870s. SO much power, something's bound to go wrong. Just looking across the first page of this forum has already made me significantly re-think buying the m17x entirely. I'm sure it's an amazing machine, when it works properly. I just feel like if I spend more I should have even more assurance of nothing going wrong, but in reality it's like I'm taking a bigger risk with the m17x than I am when I buy some 15'' gateway for 500 bucks.

I may just wait for the next models to come out and wait for some in depth reviews and hope things are a bit more flawless next time around.

I get the feeling that money is no issue for a lot of alienware buyers :) Unfortunately I'm not in that boat.

Gotta question on the M11X CPU topic. I've heard on here it might come with an i3 in the future. Can anyone please tell me what the performance/real world dfference would be between the i3 and Core2 Duo on this machine?
    Please & Thank you

I am not certain on this, so ill let the intelligent folks get the last call. But from what I remember, alienware went with c2d instead of i3 for several reasons. First, the battery life is better on the older platform. While the newer has higher computing potential, it has less calculations per watt. Also, With a big graphics card in such a small device, adding a hotter processor as well would be suicide. The current cooling system would not be enough, and it would get too hot to use. So to make it a better >12" system, they chose c2d. But I would love core i, just because it is newer, faster, and future-proof-er.
