Keep us updated. Someone else had reported being told that this was not possible, but you never know.

well i guess the casing cannot be upgraded, alienware told me that it is not possible since they would have to basicly rebuild the computer.

I don't see why you can't just send it in and let them change the case.

generally yes; that's what would make a hypothetical silver->black change impossible. that said, the skullcap should be easier. ask them if replace the back of the screen if it got *damaged* ;) (for a price, of course -- I'm not advocating warranty fraud)

Personally, the Skullcap design isn't an actual chassis change, it is just the top of the laptop. Take a look carefully and you will see that there is a seam between the back of the lid and the front. All AW did was take off the ripley lid and place on a skullcap lid instead. I don't even think that we will see a change in the quality of the case (in terms of the hinges and whatnot).

There was a user here that ordered a lid for the Alienware D900 and just placed it on his actual D900 so it was a Clevoware computer :)

from the pics that I saw it looks like its only the back piece to the LCD. That would bee cool if you could order the part and just swap it yourself whenever you wanted.

@Taco - Yea that is my point. If it is just a back piece than the quality of the case overall still probably isn't to par with what it should be.
