Funny.. I am having the opposite problem out of the box I get an error screen immediately saying my AC Adapter isn't the correct one lol.

Don't they check these mcahines before they send them out?

Take the battery out and reconnect it if you havent already.

If you had my battery and I had your AC adapter, I think we would be able to actually run our new $3,000+ machines :D

Press [FN] + [F2] to make sure the battery is infact enabled..if it is enabled then try pulling out the battery, unplugging the power cord so no power is going to the computer, then hold the power button for at least 10 seconds to discharge the motherboard. Reinsert the battery and try to boot, does it work?

Just tried and it didn't work. For some reason it only works when plugging in the charger, but right when I disconnect the charger, the laptop turns off.

    It looks like this...

Ok guys. I have had the same exact problem. I bought mine from micro center about 2 weeks ago. I didn't know what to do since I tried all those things mentioned on the forum. I brought it back to micro center and the tech guy took my battery, placed it in the floor model, and then tried it in mine and it just worked. No idea what he did, but i was baffled because I had 2 m17x's at that time (My first one was fully loaded bought from dell and there was a GPU issue so i returned that one). I tested both batteries in both computers. One battery worked on both, the other didn't work on both. Very strange...

    Str4ktt what did you do?

Just wondering and please don't bite my head off... but did you purchase windows 7 before? I went online to get mine, but they said its shipping out whatever date.

Oh and another note is that the tech guy at micro center told me that another customer had the same exact issue as you and I.

when you take the battery out and the unplug the ac adapter....hold down the power button for 15 sec...then put the batt back in then the ac adapter.....then turn on the computer...that is not all you have to do.,..the computer has 3 settings for the batt charging system...if you read your manual or search the postss it will tell you...

you have to use the touch controlls....you can select it to charge not charge...or to charge only when at a certain level...also you have to be patient ...for it to chage from cycles...kinda stupid if you ask me me but oh well....its not the microcenter....model its all of them ...

    Sidebar:

I just read an article that said you need to remove your battery if the laptop is plugged in or the battery will be damaged. For the life of me, I can't figure out why that's still the case. Do you mean to tell me that there's not microprocessor that turns off the power when the battery reaches full charge?

I was under the impression that unlike most laptops, the M17x actually stopped charging once it was full, so there was no need to worry about this..... can someone confirm this??

What do you mean unlike most laptops? Every laptop I know has a limiter to keep from overcharging the battery. Overcharging a battery can not only kill the battery longevity but it can actually overheat it and cause it to bubble or worse, explode...

Well if that were true for every laptop then the article would make no sense.
That's exactly what I'm talking about. Until it happens, how would you know? On my Dell Inspiron the battery got so hot you could cook on it. That's what finally made me look it up to find primitive system still exists. I can't imagine manufacturers could have overlooked something like this for all these years.
