I am checking out their DTR notebook but I don't understand why it cost so much. This thing pushes 6000 easily when it only contains like 2800 dollars worth of equipment. Am I missing something here? Why is this laptop double the cost of its actual components?

how do you know the equipment is only worth $2800? also, FNW is a boutique brand like AW, ergo, you're paying for the brand name. -
Well it's just an educated guess based on the tech specs of the notebook. I understand you ar paying for brand name but jesus those prices are very very bad for the amount of hardware you get. Plus they use desktop processors in them.
-
Because people equate expensive with good--surely, if it costs a lot, it must be elite!
Falcon simply rebadges and adds a different paint job to the Clevo d900F for their DRX model, which is the exact same thing as the Sager 9280
That same $6000 notebook can be had for less than $2300 from someplace like powernotebooks or xoticpc -
That's highway robbery. Lost much respect for FNW
-
Since your here you should probibly just buy an Alienware.....
-
To the OP:
People wanted the Smooth Creation Paint Job that they got with FNW along with the coffee for a small fortune. Same with Voodoo with the 25cent decal they laminated on the lid. The Alien Head and Skull Cap on the AW and the Plain Boring look of the Sager. If they wanted to pay for it so be it.
You can't stop people who think if its expensive it must be good and with this model they all burned out due to the same problem. Think of how much you would have saved getting the Sager??
One thing about that 900 was that it was a Desktop Replacement in every meaning of the word, Desktop CPU, Modified Desktop Mobo, and Desktop HEAT.
As many others have said in the past if you can DIY then do it. -
You should wait a few days to see the new offerings from Alienware.
If you're on a budget, the M17 is at a he** of a good price right now and is a proven performer in a reliable and great looking chassis. -
Falcon Northwest just re-branded a Clevo.
you can get the same exact system for much cheaper.
refer to the Clevo Guide. -
falcoon northwest just charges very high and makes it look like your getting something special.
i think they easily charge the most ing the game... -
I just came from their site and can't believe anybody actually buys a laptopfrom them.
No bleeding edge technology and a super over inflated price. -
just rebrands at least AW has exclusives
-
And people who think A.W. over charges should take a look at the FNW site.
Crazy over priced! -
Who are these guys then? do they make decent PCs? Im gunna go take a look at their site to see what all the high prices are about.
-
Flame "Chassis" (more like paint job): +$660
Is this for real? -
thats why i started this thread I'm thinking to myself why are these prices this high when the hardware is nowhere near worth that much. I'm thinking oike am I missing something here I don't get it.
-
Yeah it's totally insane lastop311.
-
the only good thing FNW has is the fragbox. the rest you can get for half of what they want from other places.
-
that's how they make profit...
-
Dam, makes Killer Notebooks look cheap. Speaking of which, why would you pay thousands extra for a paint job from FNW when you could handpick your material and design at KN? That dude, what's his name, Mark? he does some stellar work imho. I also like how he doesn't skimp anywhere, right down to getting both 32 and 64 bit Vista on discs along with your pc, not just a recovery partition.
But I'd still rather upgrade the proc one more level than get a custom paint job. I mean there's always something you can upgrade. Even if the vendor doesn't offer it, you could grab a big ssd off newegg or something. And there's always the 8 gig ram for your arm and your leg. -
Smooth Creations still does the paint job. In fact Smooth Creations started selling the Clevo line themselves at an equally inflated price.
The only thing is the warranty they offer, the machine breaks just like all Clevos but FNW lets you send it back to them next day air. But again the price you paid for that machine covers several trips to their shop.
Only other deal is that you get a bag of coffee...big deal. -
I think I'm gonna start to paint notebooks for living...
No falcon-northwest manufacturers sub forum so ill ask here
