As I've mentioned in another thread here, when I got into my M17x to find out that Dell hadn't put any thermal paste on my heatsink, my keyboard LED cable somehow got damaged and they aren't working anymore. Do you guys think I could replace this cable myself? Providing that I would buy a new one from Dell if that's possible.

Man those leds looked really awesome, it's a real bummer. :(

If they didnt put any thermal paste and the LEDs are now broke I would just ask for another computer, one that came how it's supposed to. Why buy something else from dell when it's their faulit?

^^^^ yes return it if its new. If you dont want to go that route make dell tech replace the part for you, thats what warranty is for, you shouldn't spend any money if its their fault.

Well technically it's my fault because I decided to get in there myself instead of shipping the laptop to Dell (I don't have that kind of time...).

I would ask to get the part free first and if they disagreed I wouldn't mind paying for it. The laptop is doing great right now except for that minor issue, so I have no intentions of sending it back.

The real question is: can Dell provide me with that piece and can I install this cable myself or not? It's been almost 30 days since I first placed my order, received it about 2 weeks and a half ago.

Go ahead and ask them if they can provide you with the cable, and ask how you can do it yourself, asking us wont do no good for any of us.
