Ok so After talking to a rep for an hour, and her telling me that I am crazy, and talking to the representatives superior, I found out that the side lighting on the m15x was only offered for a limited time on the ripley, everyone who ordered it under that assumption, is getting totally screwed. Period. The rep said he will see what he can do about it and call me on wed. We will see. The website clearly stated that there are six DISTINCT lighting zones on the notebook. There fore lights which are placed in very different places, thus the word distinct, meaning they stick out. There should be
1.) touch pad
2.) Keyboard
3.) touch keys
4.) alienware logo
5.) RIM LIGHTING
6.) Alinware head on front
To not offer all six is blatant false advertisement, And to have the reps lie about it is even worse. If there is anyone else who feels ripped off because of this go ahead and sound off!!! Let them know how angry you are!!! because thats just a load of BS
-
-
Isn't this like your third thread on this?
-
this one is different, its about the fact that the sales reps lied to me, like straight out, until i got to a supervisor
-
son of a..man forget the cpu, i wanted the damn lighting..no seriously this takes the pi*s, i hope they dont think they can play us silly.
well its only the side lighting, as long as the keyboard we can buy( thats a majar + light up keybaord) -
@Absinthe42 - You want to solve your issue? Take a screen shot of the website with all the information on it. If your laptop doesn't have the stuff in it, that is called false advertisement and is illegal
And by the way, you don't have to make multiple threads, just make 1 and update it when something new happens.
Never mind your old thread got locked. Sorry. -
Where do you see this??? None of the website pics have lighting around the rim.
-
Yeah, It says six distinct lighting zones though man, and ive seen em at CES, i went there.
I told him that, so i either get lighting or get mah money back -
ahhh pictures, they are worth a thousand words. Still not enough to express my anger.
-
damn they also took the pics down from their site with the lighting on them. maybe you ordered RIGHT before the change? it still sucks, but there is no proof on the site that they have side lights.
-
Man, talk about nitpickey
-
What about this idea that it may be due to supply issues? -
As I said man, you can post all the pictures in the world, and my m15x still doesn't have side lid lighting.
-
clearly there has been a change, maybe he ordered right before/after the change? who knows, all i know is i'd rather have the keyboard lit then the sides of my monitor. -
Yeah, I'm just fine with the keyboard lit up -- I'm not complaining.
I'm not a fan however of the fact the touchpad's lights go out when you plug in an external mouse. I understand why it happens, but the more lights the better -
Absinthe I agree with you. What if people ordering the extreme processor found out that they were getting something inferior and that they couldn't overclock it. All of us telling them its no biggie and will not hurt performance much at all and is not going to help them. All things advertised or implied should be honored or we should have clearly been notified. I will be calling them as soon as my laptop arrives if it doesn't have the rim lighting as well.
-
Great news.
just got off the phone with the supervisor who was supernice! anyways, he told me that they are shipping the laptop with the Rim lighting disabled, although it is physically there. The reason they did this is because they have recieved some feedback from users, saying that it decreases the battery life.
So since it is physically there, he said, they are working on a BIOS fix for the lighting, so if you have the laptop, maybe you will be able to download the fix from alienware, and the lighting will be working. -
)
-
Im curious for the UK model now, as there is nothing on the website that shows that the lighting is/isnt there.
-
-
I can live with that so long as I can have the lighting when the fix is resolved. I mean how can it affect battery life if I have it turned off? Of course it is going to cause a drain on the system with it on- It is using electricity to run.
-
Battery kill? Man, I knew that from teh start. They should include the lighting and let everybody know it will suck up power. Its lights. I didn't exspect it not to use up power. But to say it has it then disable it is dumb.
-
are you serious?? why would the tech guy i talked to say that its not even built in!! I dunno anymore, im confused
-
Why does my sales rep not know!!!
-
Because sales reps suck. And they are outsourced
-
I talked to 2 reps on the phone and one on the chat, they all knew nothing about it, and when i say nothing, I mean NOTHING. (they did not know the lid had lighting in it. when I showed him the pic, he said it was just some "shining, or glare" on the side LOL.
So finally I said I wanted to speak to the supervisor. He said that the supervisor was busy, I told him I can wait. so after a while supervisor picks up and ensures me that the lid lighting is there, but is disabled. and that development team is working on the BIOS fix (not sure what they're gonna fix) , and it will be working soon, and will probably be available as a download from alienware.
So my question is, the people who have gotten their m15x, can you tell if there are lights in the lid? -
Wow listen to this conversation, its too much
James E.: Hi, my name is James E.. How may I help you?
Brandon: ok
Brandon: i have been getting mixed responses
Brandon: mabye you will be able to help me
James E.: Sre
Brandon: I recently ordered an area 51 m15x under the impression there was side lighting
Brandon: now
Brandon: I heard it does not have it, they did not make it, there was a limited supply, and now, I hear that all of them physically have it but it comes disabled due to users complaining about the battery life.
Brandon: I am confused
James E.: The side lighting is part of our skull cap design which is not available just yet. We are currently providing the ripley design with keyboard illumination and alienfx lighting
Brandon: i went to the ces, and my friend recieved his ripley, both had side lighting
Brandon: my friend got his a week ago
Brandon: it has lights on the side
Brandon: ??
Brandon: your website specifically claims that the system lights up across SIX DISTINCT zones.
Brandon: Not 5
Brandon: are you able to explain any of this to me??
Brandon: obviously they offered the ripley, with the side lighting, it says on the website, six areas, at ces, there was side lights
James E.: Let me check on that fory ou
Brandon: thanks
Brandon: I took a picture of my friends m15x and it has side lights if there is any way to give it to you.
James E.: Unfortunately, we do not have email access
Brandon: the supervisor I spoke to today, told me that, they made it but then ran out?? so I keep getting different stories man
Brandon: but a friend who ordered it said that you need to do something with the BIOS to make the light work, due to the battery issues
Brandon: thats what a rep told him
James E.: We apologize for the inconvenience, however, we do not appear to be including side-lighting on our ripley design m15x's at this moment. If you'd like detailed information on its release for the current ripley design, we recommend speaking with a Sales Representative over the phone. You can contact our Sales Department and speak with a sales agent they can be reached at 1-800-254-3692 #1 or 1-800-494-3382. They are available Monday thru Friday 9am to 11:30pm Eastern Time or e-mail us at [email protected].
Brandon: I already paid for it dude
Brandon: and they keep giving me different answers
Brandon: im about to seriously cancel my order
Brandon: if i cant get the same answer from person to person I dunno what to do
James E.: We apologize for the inconvenience, however, we do not have specific information regarding your request. You may inquire about the ripley side-lighting with our Sales Representative, but our website does not include this feature.
Brandon: yeah but it says SIX DISTINCT areas of lighting
Brandon: and the sales reps i talk to have given me different stories
James E.: Unfortunately, our website does not depict side lighting for the m15x at this time. It is likely this was available at one point but was discontinued. If it has been discontinued, you may inquire with our Sales Team for an estimated release on the feature.
Brandon: YOUR WEBSITE SAYS SIX ZONES NOT 5
Brandon: FALSE ADVERTISEMENT!!!!!
Brandon: YOU SHOWED IT AT CES LIKE THAT ALSO!
Brandon: I have gotten the runaround all day
Brandon: who can I talk to
Brandon: like really talk to
Brandon: Not the 800 #
James E.: We apologize for the inconvenience. However, you will need to call our Sales Team for a more specific answer to your question. You may also email them at [email protected]
Brandon: Have done that,
Brandon: still the runaround
Brandon: no one has been able to point out all six zones
Brandon: i really dont want to give u guys bad press but cmon
Brandon: Im actually offended
James E.: We apologize that our site is providing conflicting information, however, our Sales Chat retrieves information from our site directly. Therefore, if our site is experiencing an issue of misinformation, you will need to call our Sales Team directly for an answer.
Brandon: at the beginning of the convo you said that, you never offered it on the ripley, now your saying that it might have been offered at one point??
James E.: Initial release for our m15x indicated that Ripley did not include side-lighting as it was part of our Skullcap design
Brandon: i see but, after someone questions you about it for a while it becomes, it might have been offered but then discontinued?? and why does it still say SIX DISTINCT AREAS OF LIGHTING??
James E.: As mentioned, there is conflicting information our website. As we can only refer to our website for information, we recommend that you contact our Sales Team by phone. Additionally, I will be able to bring this information up to our Sales Team for further clarification.
Brandon: i guess, all i know is I hope you can get that lighting in there or you guys are prb gonna loose a 5k customer
Brandon: and a lot more
Brandon: but ok
Brandon: i guess ill just keep talking to the same people over and over again
Brandon: is there a corporate # or something
James E.: Yes, you can contact (305) 251-9797
Brandon: thank you
Brandon: what ext. should I use??
James E.: Unfortunately, we are unable to provide specific extensions. There are options available to route you to our Sales/Corporate and Governement Sales Teams
Brandon: um would that not take me back to the same people as before ie. sales team
James E.: Unfortunately, that is the only department you may contact in regards to your inquiry
Brandon: I want to talk to someone who actually has some kind of power or something
James E.: I apologize, however, I can only forward you to our Sales Team for further information
Brandon: so the corporate # is the # that leads you directly back to the sales team, which will give me the same runaround answers right??
James E.: Our Corporate number can connect to Sales, as well as other divisions of Sales
James E.: As mentioned, I can only forward you to our Sales Team.
Brandon: well alright
Brandon: i guess there is nothing more to do then
James E.: Is there anything else that I may help you with?
Brandon: obviously not but this conversation will be very funny on multiple forums thank you for that at least
James E.: Again, we apologize for the inconvenience. Have a good day. -
From what I heard the light is practically invisible if not turned on
-
Absinthe42, You really know how to go after them! I totally see where your coming from though, for us to spend so much money on something and not get the whole package. Its hard to get any info from CS cause all they do is look at their own website and read off of it. Let us know what you find out cause I too would be pissed if i didn't get it. (not that i care but its the principal of it all)
-
This is the problem with type A ADHD people ordering anything online. Any detail that doesn't get immediate response turns into a CS nightmare. You expect exact answers now. You mention talking to CS for over an hour and then to a supervisor and then talk to a rep online all within a few hours span. YOU chose to drop 4500 on a system. If you can drop that kind of cash why don't you just have the patience to talk to the right people AND give them time to respond? I mean if you are willing to overpay 300 bucks on ram then why cant you wait for a proper response. I mean you are just talking about a lighting issue; thats it! I would be more pissed at myself if I realized I was being too lazy to order 2 extra gig of ram off newegg. Geez calm down. This isn't meant to be rude but you post like crazy over the same stuff. -
Am I the only one who does not really care about the light around the outside rim of the screen?
-
I think it looks good with the lighting, but it isn't a deal breaker if it does not have it. The issue though, is why do some models have it and others don't? Not fair.
-
-
thats what is so wrong though lol, they charge people full price, cut a feature out for a while, make money off of us, when they already are making a ton, then just re-integrate it later on. That is super lame.
-
Dave you have to respect Abisnthe's desire to get what he paid for. I respect the fact that he is chasing this down for all of us really. If you let manufacturer's design web-sites with all kinds of fancy prmoises and then don't hold them up to deliver on their advertising then you are saying "Hey its ok, just give me whatever you feel like delivering" It is a minor issue no doubt and for many its not even important, but hey I could care less if it didn't have a lock up hole on it while others would cry murder if it didn't.
I do hate how they are all programed to end the call with "Is there anythign else I can help you with today" after not being able to answer or do a single thing during the whole conversation. It cracks me up.
As soon as I get my notebook in a couple of days I will also challenge the sales team to come up with a valid response to this issue. -
I don't think yelling at sales reps is the right way to go about this, since they already don't know 100% of what's going on.
When I work my crappy retail job, anyone who takes an attitude with me will get either the same back, or service that is as stock-generic as possible. This shuts them up and gets them out of your face.
You need to speak to a real supervisor, the sales reps will only give you the same ****.
And please, for the love of all that's holy in this world, don't take it out on the sales reps. They aren't the ones who designed the site, and they probably don't get paid enough to afford the stuff they sell. You yelling at them like a child will probably lead them to blacklist your account number, so any future dealings will be treated like you're a total jerk.
Good luck though, I hope everything works out. I went into my m15x not even knowing if I would get lights, and I was told that I'd only have the alien head and the touch controls/mouse. -
http://www.alienware.com/intro_pages/m17x_m15x.aspx
And I agree with Stone...there's not a whole lot you can do Absinthe...regardless of what Alienware says, three people now have m15x's in their hands that don't have the side or frame lighting (GRB, hemlok, daniv)...chances are slim for you...
So you can either:
a) Return the machine, and decide a 15" laptop w/ an 8800m GTX isn't worth it if it doesn't have the frame lighting and look for another 15" with an 8800m GTX and frame lighting
b) Return the machine and wait until frame lighting becomes available (if ever)
c) Keep the machine and protest enough until they give you a free extended warranty or a free SmartBay battery or a $100 coupon or, heaven forbid, cash back... -
I have not recieved the machiene yet. I told the dude that I wanted to wait until i could see what he could do, he seemed like he could do something, but if not, well hey, i tried. Ill definately either be seeking a discount or just wait for it to come out with the lighting again, or mabye strike a deal with em, saying mabye they can upgrade me to the lights at a later time. That might be good.
-
It has not even been shipped
-
Just get the m17x when it comes out
-
I actually was looking at the new dell xps 1730, But its sooo big, but it also sports 2 8800m gtx's.
-
ugh 17in is sooooo big though
-
Ok ...i can see the 6 areas of lighting which clearly side light not one of them .
1-alienhead
2-keybored
3-alien name
4-powerbutton
5-touchpad
6-Quicktouch controllers.
So this end it.
mrwater, can we have pic of your alienfx showing areas of we can change light. in alien website it show 6 of side light not one of them. -
Hey thanks Absinthe42 for chasing them for this matter.. like many have said before, its not only about mere lighting, its about principles. I support you dude!
I was about to place an order yesterday.. but after reading about all the laptops that didn't have the lighting.. i withheld my order.. i don't want the same thing to happen (dell's m1330 white colour.. was told to us.. that it was going to be discontinued, so i got a Red one instead. Months later. They start offering white again. Grrr..) I don't wanna be the ones who pay the same price.. but only other later people getting the lighting.
Again thanks Absinthe42 for being the bad guy to chase them down. -
-
The Alienware site DOES show lighting on both the m15x and m17x. You just have to look for it.
http://www.alienware.com/intro_pages/m17x_m15x.aspx -
how can you access that page without having it bookmarked?
also- on a side note, i called about trying to get a student discount applied to my purchase. i was told no for a refund, no for a store credit, and yes to a 15% restocking fee if i wanted to return it and rebuy it.
i wouldnt have minded this, but sadly the man who dealt with me was very condescending. now i will be seeking further assistance with this matter, although i'm sure i will not get any help. i dont want to push too hard, because if i ever need real customer sevice in the future i don't want to have my account flagged as "PROBLEM CUSTOMER" or anything. -
To find that page just go to the search bar at the top of Alienware.com and type in "m17x".
Edit: They should at least give you some sort of credit for the gear shop. At least that way they'd know you would spend more money with them in the future.
No.. Seriously.. Lighting/Lying issue
