    HI

    Hi

I am considering purchasing an alienware laptop at some point in the near future, but want to be sure that it would be possible to install non-proprietary drivers - especially concerned about video drivers. I presently own an asus gaming laptop upon which it is possible to install generic nvidia notebook drivers.

    Thanks.

    Kam

Yes, you can install any non proprietary driver as long as it is stated that it support that hardware of yours, for example, you have a NVIDIA GT555M, you can either install the Dell's or the NVIDIA because they are all fully support the hardware you have. I think the only different is that, the proprietary one when you install it is optimize for only that hardware while the non-proprietary is optimize for all that is apply to it.

As for me, I only download those like the Intel Chipset, USB 3, T-Pad, Alienware Command Centre etc... from Dell. And download those like NVIDIA GPU, Intel GPU from their respective website.

You're welcome, if possible you should wait until the next revision of each Alienware laptop to be release, because next year Intel's going to release their newest and latest CPU - Ivy Bridge which is faster than the last SB, and some other stuff as well. However I cant guarantee when, but I dont think it will be long.
