hey guys
I'm having some trouble with the NumLock combo (Fn+Del in my case). it works perfectly well in normal Vista, i press the combo, and then NumLock is set (and stays that way), but when i open a game (specifically Sid Meier's Pirates!, which needs the numpad to be played properly), it will only work while i hold Fn and Del, which isn't exactly practical. anyone have an idea why, and how i can fix this? thanks in advance.![]()

no one? come on, guys, don't let me down
-
wow weird problem. Will the num lock stay on after reboot?
-
Have you tried turning Num-Lock on before going into the game? Maybe this will make it stay on while you play. I haven't played any games that need that so I'm not sure... Hope this helps

I don't know if this will work but you can give it a try, if you run the on screen keyboard and turn numlock on, it might force it to stay that way. You can turn it on by going to start --> accessories --> accessibility --> on screen keyboard. (I think that's where it is)
P.S. You might want to leave the On Screen Keyboard running... -
nice thinking shatterjee. so i start the onscreen keyboard, hit NumLock, open Pirates!... and boom, the NumLock is gone.
so i try alt-tabbing, and hitting NumLock while the game's already running... works fine, right up to when i switch back to the game. ...and it's gone again. -
Maybe this will help:

right, that would fix it. now the great debate... because the problem is that the 1.02 patch changes lots of things in the game... so i've held off installing it for at least two years... ah well, needs must. thanks man, have a rep.
-
oh for crying out loud! it still doesn't work!
-
Thanks for the rep... I guess it doesn't do much good though... I don't really know what is causing it to turn of on you... Has this ever happened to you on another laptop or a different game on this one? I think it might have to do witht he game itself but can't be sure cuz I don't have it. The only problem I think I have had is the popping and clicking from the sound after the BIOS update
-
no, it's really quite strange. i've contacted Take2 support and posted on a few fansites, i hope someone knows what to do...
-
if it is only the game doing it then there is only 1 solution. plug in an external keyboard
-
or external number pad at least.
-
i know, that would be the simplest solution, but... that kinda kills the point of having a laptop... plus i'd have to buy one...
-
true - very true.
maybe the game searches/looks for an actual number pad/number lock. and not the Fn+Del you say works for other stuff....
i did not follow the link, so i did not read if this was supposed to be fixed with it, but it sounds like it needs a seperate pad for it to work.
is the game kewls? -
i love it. it's a few years old, but it's great fun to sail around and fence other pirates, board ships, loot cities, woe governor's daughers...
-
-
smaller too.... -
I would definitely hate carrying around a huge arse keyboard everywhere I went. -
well since this only happens when he is playing that specific game he just needs to accept the fact that he cant play the game on the go. its like i had to accept the fact that tf2 doesnt run too good on my m15x because valve decided to optimize the game for the cpu and single core too. how i wish i could play without installing the patch that "updates the steam engine"
-
true that.
i have an AMD dual FX unit (desktop...lol) and had to DL a patch for the cpu's to 'see' when a program was wanting a single core unit or if it could use both.
not sure if intel has this or if it is strictly a concern of the gaming company.
dont even know if this helped...lol
