no other driver has done this for me, but the 185.20 drivers allow my cards to dynamically downclock when they're not being used as much, kinda like the mobile cpus.

the temps at max load while running 3dmark06 were down about 3-5ºC from Dox's 180.74 drivers. my cards used to idle at around 63ºC, and now they idle at 56ºC.

the gpu downclocks to 200mhz for the GPU and 400mhz for the memory.

this has considerably cooled down my notebook while idle.

i used to idle at 60º, and now i idle at 53ºC.

very thrilled about that; now i'm waiting for performance differences. the only real game i play is l4d, and i'll update that tomorrow after i play l4d tonight. i might throw in fallout 3 and prince of persia as well.

Your drivers must have been broken before (no powermizer) because the GPUs are designed to idle at "2D speed", which on my 8600m GT is 166/100 vs. 475/700 for the 3D speeds.

Weird, because it has always done that for me and I'm using 167.43.

Edit: Yeah, I agree with Jstn7477. Your drivers must have been broken before and did not have powermizer enabled for some reason.

oh true. i completely forgot about powermizer.

regardless, the max temps have gone down, which was a concern for me for a while.

why is it that mine doesnt downclock to "2d mode" at all
its seems that my clocks are permanently at "performance" mode whether im playing a game or just surfing the net
