Seeing temperatures go up more than 40C in less than two minutes is disturbing. Not sure what NVIDIA did this time, but I hope they fix it.

Unfortunately the NV forum is now being swamped by blinkered fanboys refusing to see the HW problem or any fault of NV - BOORING! It seems I'm a hater from the AMD camp!!! Oh well, it hasn't fried my card...

I am now safely on the 314 WHQL drivers. FWIW, the Nvidia uninstall did such a good job that when I booted into Safe Mode and ran Driver Sweeper, there weren't actually any files left on the system to delete. Also, I selected the "perform clean install" option when installing the 314 drivers.

    Glad to hear it!

The NV diver install has impressed me in recent times. I actually started using the 'upgrade' option with success. Keeps all my custom global settings. NV seem to have gone more 'mainstream' now with their drivers target. GeforceExperience is a perfect example of an add-on for the noob ;) and I like it

Good call IMO. This driver is really not 'prime time' and the rush to get a WHQL out for the new cards has resulted and a distinctly beta like release being foistered on all auto-update folks everywhere

Oh dear, that sounds bad :(. The latest defence tactic is that remnants are being left behind and people are not clearing it down correctly. I call BS with all the people reporting this. All you can do is a complete fresh windows install and start with the dell published driver. I have very little confidence this will fix it, going on the attempts of others but it will prove out the card has failed. Without any acknowledgement from NV you are in a bad place - sorry dude!

Beta drivers out on the NV site. 320.49 No link supplied, if you want it go find it, not going to advise using it yet but if you give it a shot post results ;)

No. New cards always have a certified driver available on the OEM's (Dell) web site. They can't sell them until there is a working certified driver. The OEM mods it first then publishes. It won't be the latest for sure but it will be a working one :D. I know that if dell had published this driver it would have been pulled. NV has a trickier time doing this...

Changes and Fixed Issues in Version 320.49

    Windows Vista/Windows 7 Fixed Issues

[Battlefield 3]: Blue rectangles appear when exploding a car within the game.[1282583]

[Eve Retribution]: There is image corruption in the game. [1282302]

[Call of Duty: Black Ops 2]: There are artifacts and graphics corruption in the game.
    [1277657]

[GeForce GTX 670]: The GPU runs at a higher performance level more frequently with
    dual monitors enabled. [1279437]

[GeForce GTX 670][Battlefield 3]: The graphics in the game are corrupted. [1281730]

[GeForce GTX 680][Assassin’s Creed 3]: There is purple corruption during gameplay.
    [1290918]

[SLI][3D Vision][GeForce GTX 680M][Notebook]: The internal display goes blank after
installing the driver and enabling SLI or stereoscopic 3D. [1297104]

[SLI][Surround][GeForce GTX 670]: 2D Surround cannot be enabled when SLI is
    enabled. [1303522]

[SLI][Tom Clancy`s Ghost Recon Future Soldier]: SLI profile needs to be updated.
    [1292762]

    Windows 8 Fixed Issues

[GeForce GTX 680][Stereoscopic 3D]: The NVIDIA Control Panel->Set up stereoscopic
3D->Stereoscopic 3D display type setting reverts from HDMI Checkerboard to 3DTV
Play after rebooting the system. [1294390]

[SLI][3D Vision][GeForce GTX 680M][Notebook]: The internal display goes blank after
installing the driver and enabling SLI or stereoscopic 3D. [1297104]

[SLI][Surround][GeForce GTX 670]: 2D Surround cannot be enabled when SLI is enabled. [1303522]

[SLI][Tom Clancy`s Ghost Recon Future Soldier]: SLI profile needs to be updated. [1292762]

The 670 is the card that burned most - like the way they slipped in the root cause without effect ;)

New beta 320.49 seems to be only slightly better and is still quite a way (going on reports) from prime-time :( . No problems for me though, or any noticeable increase in performance.

Nope. NV have said a vbios update (for 680m) is needed for continued compatibility. The code has been passed to clevo and dell but has yet to surface. No new driver release will fix this problem until the vbios update. Last working version 314.22.

Edit: I tried to find the technical description of the issue but failed :(. From memory NV said a previously unused field (that should have had data) is empty, implying the OEM's are at fault - hmm, they (OEM's) are not going to point the finger back at NV what with NDA's and all regarding development...

My 680m on my R4 seems to be running fine for this driver. Does this problem pertain only to dual gpu's and 3D screens? I check the temps and they are fine, although I recall one instance of instability when my GPU stopped working and my HD 4000 starts running while nvidia programs crash. Other than that no issues. I might revert if any other single 680m owners experience issues.

All the ones I have seen are single 680's with the 120hz (3D) display. 60hz panels seem fine.

NV are now pushing 320.47, I got two different NV newsletters yesterday (US and EU) both list it as the latest driver even though it's a beta that has only been out a few days! Guess they want to get this .18 release off machines. Unfortunately, even though I'm sure whatever was burning cards will have been addressed, the stability in games seems to have not improved much.

So does the 320.49 work with the single 680m + 3D screens on the M17xR4?

Basically I'm on 314.22 right now which is fine. I'm running Windows 8 but want to upgrade to Windows 8.1 which contains a 320.xx driver. This causes the screen to go blank as soon as it reaches the "Getting devices ready" stage of installation. Forcing a reboot reverts to Windows 8.

So if I install 320.49 (latest hopefully stable release), will the Windows 8.1 install detect the newer driver and therefore use that itself?

Cool. downloading it right now. So I can install it on Windows 8 and then perform an upgrade to Windows 8.1?

UPDATE: Yes, yes, yes! It works. Downloaded the 326.01 driver linked above. Took a system restore point in Windows 8, then installed it. Rebooted once. opened the windows 8.1 ISO. Ran Setup. chose "Keep apps, settings, files". continued.

Install went fine. Came up correctly with full resolution and apps and settings maintained. Thanks a ton, Mr. Fox.

Does the 326.01 work on windows7?

does it fix the 3d issues with 680m?
or is nvidia still insisting that is a vbios issue?

I believe it does install on win 7 but I never tried it. As far as the 680/3D Nvidia have said (somwhere in the release notes) that the issue will be fixed by a vbios update from the OEM (dell/clevo). I've not seen anyone try though and state for sure...

Just finished some tests with my M17x R4 680M 3D screen.

    I tested driver versions 314.22, 320.49 and 326.01 on Win8 x64.
I can confirm (but I guess we all already know) that only version 314.22 works without any problem.
The other two drivers immediately boot up with a black screen.

NV/Alienware, where is our vbios update?

Interesting, maybe the issue is not as consistent as it appears to be - unless you have an external monitor attached, which I read gets around the issue?

    Did some additional testing:

314.22: Works fine directly after installation, after a couple of reboots and power cycles continues to work without any problems.

320.49: Works fine directly after installation (including 3D), after reboot blank screen. After some additional reboots/power cycles it gave me 40% (4 out of 10) a normal Windows 8 screen.

326.01: Fails directly after installation. After a power cycle no driver was installed.

    Hi,
Here's my testing scenario which seems to have different results from what Mars79 got.

Clean install Windows 8 Pro x64. Installed 314.22. Reboot. Works fine.

Upgrade to 326.01. Reboot. Works fine.

Upgrade to Windows 8.1 Preview. Works fine.

3D working as expected. However, I've turned it off now in the NVidia Control Panel as it strains my eyes.

Games running fine at Ultra res. GPU temp is between 64-76 C after 1 hour of play. No artifacts of black screens till now.

So 326.01 seems to be ok for me - at least on Win8.1.

Strange and at the same time very interesting to see that some people don't seem to be affected by the blank screen bug.
If I have the time tonight I will try a clean install of Win8 x64 and immediately install driver version 320.49.

Yes it is strange, NV seemed to be saying 'it doesn't work and will not until the vbios update'. Looks like it's a dice roll like all the other problems people are reporting.

TBH I've kinda lost a lot of respect for NV over all this, yes driver issues will arise and that is just the way of the PC, but all the denials and plain ignoring with statements like 'we are unable to reproduce your problem' . People with brand new cards not being able to use them - they have certainly lost their competitive advantage in many peoples eyes.

Just in case anyone else 680m/3D is going to give this a try, having an external monitor to hand is useful since you can use this to see what you are doing in it goes badly and roll back. I read win 8 can be a challenge to get into safe mode...

It's indeed a bit challenging. You need to press SHIFT-F8 just before Windows 8 is starting to load. It will take trial and error. Most of the time you are too late. Anyway, you then will come in recovery mode and from there you can choose to boot into safe mode.
