Get downloading, fellas, Nvidia has just released the GeForce Power Pack, which enables PhysX processing on all 8-series, 9-series, and 200-series GPUs. the package includes the updates for the GPU, as well as a few goodies such as Warmonger, some tech demos, and three UT3 maps that can take advantage of the new PhysX capabilities. have fun!![]()

PS: there's also a new CUDA pack out for those of you who dabble in whatever it is CUDA's good for![]()
EDIT OF EDIT OF EDIT OF EDIT OF EDIT OF EDIT: laptopvideo2go.com has the .inf files up again.
-
wow you get a free game too but then again warmonger was always free
. Whats CUDA....
-
i think it lets you use your GPU as your CPU for rendering and computing big stuff and whatnot.
-
anyway to DL it without all the xtras?
-
naturally. you can check and uncheck all the games and demos. then again, not much use without the actual driver yet. root for laptopvideo2go...
-
Jus downloaded onto my new laptop hope it works
-
-
This update didnt work
-
okay, so the driver's only for desktop cards for now. we'll have to wait for laptopvideo2go.com to provide a modded .inf.
-
laptopvideo2go.com now has the modded .inf and everything. link's in the first post. 64bit version links will be added when they're available.
EDIT: laptopvideo2go.com has taken the files down again, i couldn't download the .inf before as well. they should be up again soon. -
Everything seems to be working perfectly; driver and PhysX... What's up with CUDA???
-
It's the 177.83 driver, right? And have there been any serious issues, or is it good to go?
-
i cant find the powerpack in that laptop site
-
no, it should work now with the modded .inf.
-
Tried it out on my desktop and it shot my CPU score up through the roof in the Physics score. Ended up with a 31k CPU score with only a E8400. Really like these drivers so far.
In 3dmark Vantage. -
Just installed the driver. Stable update. Good stuff, NVidia.
-
Hey guys, my m15x is acting funny with the driver, have you guys experienced downclocking issues with the 177.83 driver from lv2g? My GPU clocks are 100/200 for some weird reason. I guess i can try downloading from nVidia and grabbing the inf from lv2g but just wanted to know whether you guys are observing the same thing. Reminds me of the old driver downclocking issue that took forever to fix.
EDIT: forgot to include specs: X7800 Core 2 Extreme, 4GB 800Mhz OCZ RAM, 8800M GTX 512mb -
that's normal. the driver does that under light load to save energy and generate less heat. as soon as you start up a game, they jump to 600/1250 (or whatever the stock clocks are, can't remember them right now) again, so no need to worry.
-
Besides from the laptopvideo2go.com link, does the Nvidia forcewithin link and drivers apply to mobile chips or just the desktop version of the GPU's?
Just that there is no solid mention of the mobile version.. -
well, nvidia doesn't actually ever release mobile drivers, leaving that to the manufacturers of the notebooks. AW apparently sucks at making drivers, as do other companies, so places like laptopvideo2go.com offer special files that will enable the desktop drivers to work on mobile GPUs.
the link to engadget is for folks who like to read up on what they're about to download, the link to nvidia is so you can download the goodies, such as Warmonger or the tech demos, and the link to laptopvideo2go.com is so you can get the actual driver. -
How are these new drivers working for you? -
i like them. they dynamically downclock, which is a feature i absolutely love. obvously, the PhysX stuff is pretty nice. only thing that sorta bothers me is that my 3dmark06 score went down by over 400, close to 500 points. this might be because i've now got more stuff on my HDD than when i last tested (and got 10,006), but yeah. i can't say yet how they are under gaming stress, been too busy studying to test peformance in Crysis. should get around to that tonight
-
Cool.. I just happened to stumble upon this link from Inqirer website.
http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/08/14/nvidia-desktop-drivers-laptop
Article is pretty interesting. Here is a small extract:
Installation and set up sounds like a breeze for Vista owners.
I wonder how well this actually performs. -
maybe a stupid question...
does this matter for 32 or 64 bit? -
There are versions for both.
-
interesting tool. does it always have to run in the background?
-
I just used the DriverHeaven tool on the stock 177.83 from NVIDIA. It mods the .inf file. After the tool reported mod was complete, ran the NVIDIA setup.exe and drivers installed. Everything seems to be running fine.
One thing I noticed (also reported here by Whizzo) the driver dynamically downclocks. I'm not used to this as the laptopvideo2go modded .inf doesnt do this. Need to test to be sure its not going to bottleneck performance.
So far so good though. -
mine does, and i've got the .inf from lv2go as well.
-
I feel kinda newb saying this bu, I don't have Windows Aero now. and GRID won't start.
-
no problem. go to your desktop, right-click, and select "system control" (or something like that, mine's german
). then choose "customization" (again, not entirely sure
) and then "design" (i'm pretty sure about this one
). you should now be able to select "Windows Vista" or "Alienware" to re-activate Aero.
-
Thank you for the tip,
English version its: right-click "personalize", "Windows color and appearance".
GRID starts now but it won't go to factory clocks. it goes to 275 core, 100 shader, 300 mem. used Riva to monitor. -
when i run GRID the video card goes to full clocks :/. im using the 177.72 drivers too
-
Used laptopvideo2go.com version of 177.83 and it fixed the GRID non-default clocking problem, I was using the DriverHeaven Tool before.
-
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
So how do you think the new 177.83 drivers would handle 880Gtx's running in Sli mode?
OB -
I cant find the physX pack....can anybody put the direct link to it. How is it call? Thank you
-
the necessary links are all in the first post.
-
oh ok.... one more question. Do I have to unisntall my previos drivers? I have the stock ones. I'm not sure if this is a video card driver or just a physx pack? sorry if is a dumb question.
-
you're still on the original ones? wow...
yeah, it's best if you uninstall the old drivers first. the new driver includes a new "part" that lets your GPU also compute PhysX effects. so it's kinda both, it's a new video driver, and it has the PhysX component which can give you some really neat effects in games. -
lol yes I dindt change my drivers because they were working fine....10,100 on 3dmark and solid 25 frps on crysis. thank you for all the help.
-
I just download the version from nvidia.com and it was over 100mb and the version from laptovideo2go is only 39mb....why is that? is that the correct driver?
-
i think the version from laptopvideo2go has the PhysX pack as a separate download.
-
Oh, really? Can someone link? I've heard it helps with Crysis so I'm interested.
-
the physx thing can be found here
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=20095
if i install 177.83 do i still have to install the physx ones since it says Latest version as included with 177.83 -
i installed the one from laptopvideo2go and i'm pretty sure i had the PhysX afterwards. however, i almost immediately also installed the PhysX update (8.something), so not sure anymore.
-
-
i think so, yeah.
-
Awesome, thanks. I'll be updating my PhysX as well. Any additional things need to be done before installation or is it good to go off download?
-
i think you should update drivers to 177.83 too. im going to install them now and then install phsyx. ill run 3dmark after that to see what i can get with these drivers.
-
Yeah, I've got those drivers in already. I think I'll be all right then, thanks.
-
just finished installing everything and use 3dmark. 3dmark gave me 9472. 200 points higher from 177.72
