I know it's a pretty small issue compared to the throttling or failing hard drives, etc, but do you think it's worth having a tech come out to fix the keyboard flex in the lower corners? Is this something they can fix pretty easily? I'd hate to have a tech screw up something else on the computer trying to fix such a minor issue (but definitely still a nuisance).

Thanks to everyone for making this thread so useful!

An interesting turn of events has taken place....

I just went online and noticed that the 180 dollar charge for restocking has been cancelled. Dell/Alienware looks to have stepped up to the plate.

Because of this single fact alone, I think I may hold on to the M15x and wait for a fix.

If this cancel of the restock remains in place, I may even call back my buddy and tell him that Dell/Alienware owned up and he should order....

    Time will tell.

i have two sitting in the floor that both have the flex. dunno if thats something they can do or maybe you can engineer something on your own.

Some laptop just have flex, which isnt a fault per se, but rather a consequence of the hardware design. It might very well be that all M15x's have slight flex in that region, in that case its only something you can do yourself. It might very well be, that in 3 months or so, somebody uploads a tutorial on how to mod it so that there is no flex.

BUT, there is not harm in calling them and asking if its a flaw or not. Personally, I wouldnt change it if its not too annoying, just cause of the hassle.

My Asus G60 is very nice, but side by side with Alienware, it's like Corolla vs Lexus GS....

Congrats howard! I thought it was coming on Tuesday? I knew you'd like the way it looks, especially compared to the G60. Now if Dell irons out this throttling business, the M15X will be the ultimate laptop.

Interesting that both of yours have flex. Maybe it's more common than I thought.

I paid for the 39.99 shipping 2 days, and by the book it supposed to be delivered Wednesday so coming today's a shock to me, albeit a welcome one. Over the years purchasing stuff online, I have realized one thing tho.. UPS and FEDEX seem to move their stuff like xxx on fire during holiday seasons. I hve over the years purchased many things online and opt 2 days or 3 days (more expensive) shipping and on many occasions, I received my stuff next day or at least 1 business days early!

PS: This sucker is heavy..... just got home from work, gotta study for final..will turn it on after final tonight... :D

Well im sending mine back, I spent to much time now as it is trying to get the sound card to work and I still randomly hear a pop or like a glitch sound on external speakers. I kind of just have given up.

Best of luck to all of you

Installing MW2 now... even without playing game I"m already WOWd by this machine.... I thought Asus G60 was nice... yea it was but not even close to the class of fit finish as Alienware. LED screen on Alienware blows Asus G60's to water. Keyboard exhibit absolutely NO flex and system is SILENT.

Whats good most of all is my Asus G60's GTX 260M at best case from factory, idles at 57 to 59C normally, and my M15x's GTX 260M idles at 43C!!!! under the same condition. I guess you truly get what you pay for.

It's a great machine, not perfect (no laptop ever is) but close enough. In a way I wish I'd never discovered the throttling problem because prior to that, I couldn't find any major flaws with the machine. Even with the throttling problem, I still wouldn't pick any other 15-17" laptop over it. The revised M17x with the i7 chip will definitely have me drooling but until then, this thing is top notch.

^ Upgrading the GPU is simple.

    Turbo is automatic.

Ditto..maxed out at 1600 x 900 game is perfect, detail and FPS is on par with my desktop i7 system with ATI 5870.

PS: At max load my Asus G60's GTX 260 reach 80 degrees... and my M15x's GTX 260m under same condition and scenario, 61C max!!!!!!!!!!! this is insane!

    PS: Thanks Joker, I'm glad I chose 1600 x 900.. I'm too old to look at 1920 x 1080 on 15.6 inches..

KEV and JOKER, how do I get one of those M15x banner signature like yours?

Some people have already replaced their GPU, no soldering is necessary. And from what I've read previously there is a pretty good chance your 240 will come with 1GB despite the advertised 512mb.

Can you monitor the GPU clocks as well? A hunch tells me that the temp is lower due to the throttling issue.
