yeah I read that.
guess im just hesitant on forling out $3000aud for something that cant run on battery. So ill just wait and seelike most here if it gets fixed ill be ordering straight after Windows 7 comes as a preinstall that way less hassle

Driverheaven.net testet die M15X using Windows 7 and they didn't report any stuttering problem when running on battery.
Maybe one of the lucky owners could give it a try and install a Win7 RC? It will definitely be faster than wasting 4 hours on the phone with tech support
A short question to the ppl, who are sending the laptop back: Why don't you wait for a few days? I mean, the stuttering doesn't sound like an unresolveable problem to me. I am sure the Alienware engineers had a big focus on Windows 7 and maybe the battery thingy on Vista just slipped through -
Suprised that no one has installed windows 7 so far. There is a small chance that the stuttering issue may be to do with windows vista.
-
yeah thats a good point surely if driverheaven has reviewed the m15x they would have run into the same issues as the rest of you. Could be a vista thing... very interesting
-
I should have mine today. That will be the first thing I do is intall Win7 Ultimate.

Reading through the last few pages I got quite worried, but now I'm not that bothered. I will be using my M15x with the AC about 98% of the time. I have my NC10 for mobile use. The only thing that slightly concerns me is what a few people have said. I am forking out £1300, so I would like it to actually WORK on battery. Even if it is only for 2 hours (as I said the battery life isn't very important to me at all, as long as it works)
I think I will just pay attention to what happens in here and see if any fixes coming out over the next few weeks (not due for delivery for another 4 or 5 weeks).
One question though, the 21 day return policy, that is from the delivery date, not the order date right? -
-
-
So neither of my two options then, lol!
Well at least I have plenty of time to sit and see what happens with the issue before I need to make any sort of decision about it.
I'm not too worried at all any more then. If the issue hasn't been resolved for around about November 8th or 9th then I think I will just cancel too.
Although it wont affect me too much, as I said, I don't want to pay so much money for a laptop that doesn't actually work unless its plugged in! -
-
still in boxing stage today, since sunday...
-
i'll put tiny xp on mine and let you know how it runs
-
I got windows 7 professional from msdn, give me the laptop and i'll install the os and check if the lag still persists lol
-

btw i just had a fight with one of the dell reps, apparently most of them live in the phillipens ( screwed that spelling. ) after threating him on pressing charges (long story) he then told me that he is all the way in his country. DAYMN.. i thought it was just a myth or something . no wonder most of them are clueless...
-
I'm bummed out. But my ETA for delivery isi 10/29. Hopefully this problem gets resolved.

Got my TacTx Headset today, and i am very pleased with it, good quality, and they sound good. plus they look great with the Alienware logos
pics comming soon -
That's very nice. I can't wait for pics. Mine comes next week...pretty excited about that.
-
i will do an unboxing video and take detailed pics. no one has answered my question about the hard drive bay fitting a 12mm drive rather than only 9mm.
-
The best feature about the headset is how the mic, retracts up into the ear piece
-
i'm ticked off i didn't get a headset
-
-
I don't like that one, makes it easy to loose
-
Oh really?
that's pretty nice. I need to see a vid of a that.

Okay... I'm really only writing this on the aesthetics of the machine.
Body... magnesium is well crafted and all but definitely not striking like aluminum would be.
Weight... is noticeable
Keyboard... I don't like how the color blue doesnt match. The front intake vents/speakers glow a different shade of blue compared to the keyboard. Again, keyboard is not the M17x quality in terms of color. Top row of keys are bright... the rest kinda suck.
Screen... so much wasted real estate. They try to hide it by placing some gigantic font of "Alienware" in its place. It didnt look too bad in pics but now that its in front of me, I'm surprised i missed it. Looks cheesy so I turned it off, but all that does is over amplify the lack of screen size... YMMV
but all that can be ignored and is not a deal breaker...
my biggest complaint so far has been the very very very first thing you do when you open up the laptop... you lay your hands on the palm rests... ready to begin typing your new login/password... and your palms touch this cheap a$$ textured plastic. C'mon AW... its the same **** that is on my $400 dell 13" inspiron. I'm surprised no one has said anything about that. That IS a deal breaker to me.
does anyone know if its the same on the M17x. If it is, I'm out. -
-
M17x has a rough plastic palmrest .....
I like it because it keeps me from sweating
see my CPU video for more -
The palmrest is the same plastic on both machines.
-
oh and 6-cell battery.... fully charged... unplugged and windows vista says 1 hour and 49 minutes in power saver mode.
-
thats weak sauce... feels so hallow and cheap.
-
M15x = epic fail IMO.
-
huh...1:50 on a 6 cell. Guess it's not terrible, but I feel like we should get more out of the 9 in that case. Still, I'd let it run itself down and see what you actually get.
on a side note, I don't think I've ever seen a laptop other than macbook pros that had anything other THAN plastic for the hand rest. -
Question to you all... if I blow this up with Win7 ... can I still return it? I do want to see how she'll run with Win 7. I dont know anything about Dellienware's return policy.
-
If you blow it up just by installing an OS that will be on the machine anyhow in the next few weeks, then they are having some serious issues with the machine beyond just the OS>
-
Doesn't matter

Bah....apples. We have a bunch of relatively new iMacs (~1yr old now) here where I work (I do tech support here) and we have to call in 1 or 2 a week for something going bad on them (usually RAM and HDDs)
