KEV and JOKER, how do I get one of those M15x banner signature like yours?

Can you monitor the GPU clocks as well? A hunch tells me that the temp is lower due to the throttling issue.

ok so i understand some think from what they hear not even worry becsue my 512 might come as a 1gig
i have seen dell do things like that in the past also with other things

but im confused when i had the sales rep on the phone i asked him if the video card was upgradable he said he would have ot check with his tech team and he got back to me said that i would have to upgrade the entire system board im confused
also because i look on dell website and alienware website
at upgradable parts and it does not give me the option to order a graphics card for the system
are we sure this card just pops out like the cpu would
and can i order one from alieanware dell
or do i have to find them online

you can upgrade the video card, but not only the RAM... the gtx 260m has 1GB of ram and also the gtx 280m..

installation is pretty easy.. removing the back cover, unscrewing the heatsink, placing the gpu, adding thermal paste.. then put everything back together..

MOdern warfare 2 disable alt/tab on default to prevent accidental death so will have to figure out how to disable that then I can monitor. Just did a round of gaming in the FAVELA scenario, this is the dense urban combat in Brazil with tons of enemy and movement, structure, waste. During the gameplay, I have had no slow down at all in melee and close quarter combat and my GTX 260m peaked at 59C which is amazing. Also like I said at same scenario my Asus would have been pushing 80C at least.

Not sure about throttling at the moment, because it certainly doesn't seem like any throttling at all was taking place with the fluid frame rate. However I can say that Asus G60's CPU and GPU share the same cooling pipe/mechanism whereas on M15x the Video card and CPU cooling are separate,I'm sure that helps with the temperature a great deal :D

I order the oem version too. Remember to update your firmware before installing your OS and driver. The most update firmware is 02HD.

I'm not sure why I keep returning to these threads. I'm torturing myself. My M15x arrived about a week ago and is currently wrapped up in the computer room ready for Christmas. So tempted to go and rip it open, play with it while the wife is working late and then re-wrap it.

Well what are you waiting for?I ripped mine open the moment it arrives.. throttling.. no throttling..who cares? Mine does everything I need to do beautifully, play modern warfare 2 highest detail without problem, runs cool and shows up as having 8 CPU on cpu meter :D

Sure throttle is a legitimate concern, but MAYBE in another year or more at best before it may pose a problem, and for me, there's no problem for my usage, just rip it open and enjoy :D

Open it up! You should at least test it. You are losing valuable days to return it if it has problems.

The problem is that these things arent really cheap. Especially the 4Gig module. So I guess right now you have to wait until they get cheaper (which they should once DDR3 gets more common. Im guessing itll take at lest 5 months (maybe more, but thats just a guess).

Anyway, you actually should be good with at least 3 Gb.

From what I have seen the 4gb are about the same price anywhere else unless it's a promo or on discount, dell is already selling the items at a discounted price when you buy a new build.

You don't have to update it first. You can install your window and driver then update it. It just Some time the update can go wrong and you can loose all your file on your hard drive. So since it a brand new drive might as well update it first and if somthing go wrong you don't have to worry about your file.

bleh. i do believe im done with the M15x. 3 machines and 4 screens and countless hours on the phone isn't worth it anymore. i know i'm being picky but i can't bring myself to pay nearly $3k for something thats not perfect. its like buying a brand new car and it has a big chip in the windshield.

my last call today ended with an offer of a $50 credit and me asking for an RMA yet again. bleh.

well, I wont be accepting M15X with a dead pixel either. Its really funny how their quality assurance program works... It probably just checks if the computer turns on. In my old m15X the blue ray drive did NOT eject.

Well I WOULD be getting my M15x tomorrow. If it wasn't for the fact that Dell has locked the fedex shipment so you can't call up and ask them to hold it at the depot for pickup. Apparently Dell is requiring a single attempt to delivery before I can do that. What happened when I called Dell and asked if THEY could call fedex and ask them to hold it at depot? Sorry we can't do that....thanks guys.

Instead I'm going to miss the delivery tomorrow since I work 8-5PM in the field. Hardly the end of the world, but the fact is that it comes down to Dell not having procedures in place to allow a customer to hold a package.

For the Record I ordered my M15x 11/30 around 12PM.

it's indirect signature required. If you live in a relatively safe neighborhood, you can leave a note on the door for the driver to leave the package somewhere safe. I did and fedex left it at my backdoor.

Also I ordered Nov 27th, Received it Dec 7th, this includes a long weekend (thanksgiving) as well, but I paid 39.99 2 days shipping which somehow got upgraded to next day shipping with no extra charge by FEDEX. Just to give you guys an idea on the manufacturing time. 39.99...worth every penny :D

i'm just confounded as to how i've had FOUR bad screens and the majority of folks here have had no issues with theirs.

i think im just gonna either wait a while and try again or go the super portable route with an adamo or something.

Next day 69.99 is overkill but the reason of bouncing around and warehouse worker throw stuff around is precisely the reason I pay 40 bucks for 2 days shipping...one less chance to get bounced around. So far has worked out pretty well for me.

Sorry to hear about the 4 bad screen, that is pretty terrible.
