rjtech also sells them

if so i think id rather wait for that i had ATI's in all of my desktops and loved them
but depending on how much they are maybe ill setle for the 280 you selling your 280 for 250 ? or is that about how much the 5800 will be ? -
I have a 260 not 280. I think the 5800 series (yes they're ATi) will be going for at least $500-$700 each. -

i'm in the uk and the drive in mine is the uj235a its very fussy about media i found out after a few trys that it likes verbatim
-
Would you mind checking one more thing for me? Mine is showing a driver date of 2006 for the drive...is your driver for the blu-ray DVD showing the same date? -
-
Yeah, there's nothing special about Blu Ray from the driver perspective-it's just another optical drive. All the magic happens with the Blu Ray playback program (ie PowerDVD), and the video drivers.

Hey guys got a bit of a problem here. Every time I have to turn on my lappy things light up, other things bleep and bloop, alls normal. Right as it gets past the Windows is starting the screen reverts to this:
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e18/shadowrunex/IMG_0206.jpg
and incase you cant read that it says :
"Checking file system on C:
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Volume label is OS.
One of your disks needs to be checked for consistancy. You
may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended
that you continue.
To skip disk checking, press any key within 10 second(s)."
Now it does count down but no matter what I hit it wont skip and once it hits 1 most of the time is just hangs there. I have to hard restart like 5 just to get it to boot correctly. Is there something I have to disable or should I call the tech now? -
Press F8 after the system first boots, go into safe mode and restore your windows to an earlier point. That should get rid of that message.
-
mine did the same exact thing also had to rebuild my startup files i believe to get it to work normal again

I thought i had the solution to the Iphone syncing problem by buying a Express card USB card. It supplies 4 USB port via the Express card slot on the lower right of the M15x.
Alas, syncing still fails some of the time by telling me it found a new iPhone.
My theory was that there is something wrong with the chipset so by buying an USB express card, the card itself would create USB ports with other controller logic.
Now i am also officialy out of options -
Funny thing is, this only worked with PowerDVD and would not work with WinDVD. Seems this blu-ray technology isn't as far along as I thought it was!!! -
Hey from me again
I have a quite weird problem, and I'm wondering whether it's something I'm doing wrong, or it's normal for this to happen.
From time to time, at really random intervals, I hear a "clicking" sound and my PC freezes for about a second and then everything is normal again.
I couldn't find anything related in this and the previous threads (maybe I'm not using the correct search terms), except that the "noise" is probably coming from the i7 processor and it's noticeably different from the "noises" from older processors.
Is there anything I can do to avoid these random freezes?
And also related to the iphone discussion - does A02 bios fix the USB problem that iPhones are having with syncing? -
Correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe that processor's can't make ' clicking ' sounds. Only hard drives can...

It's not the normal HDD read/write sound, it's a slightly higher pitch click (going toward cracking) sound. It's as if something is physically swapping to something else, it's really hard to explain.
Unfortunately I don't have a spare HDD, and it can't be the BlueRay drive, as I'm hardly even using it, and it certainly doesn't happen when I have these freezes.
I hear this click/crack, my PC freezes for 1 second completely (let's say I'm playing a game, and it completely stops, as if I hit a pause button - sound, video, everything), then it's all normal again.
My reference above to the processor was because the only thing I found was that "i7s operating is a bit different from your normal processors", and I admit - I have no idea what might make this noise. -
Any idea if Alienware will refresh anything in January?
-
-
Yeah, what wolf said. I was able to initially sync my phone but since then its crapped out.
-
My m15x says sync in progress, but never actually finish the syncing, i can't add anything onto my ipod, oh well I'll be returning it on january anyway.

I'm un-offically (until my m15x arrives on satuday from 5150Joker) an Alienware first time member!

Welcome to the club Jubbin! Once you go black (AW), you never go back or something like that haha.
P.S. Once you get the M15x setup, you should join our steam group (see my sig). -

Merry Christmas everyone!

Anyone using 186.82 and have a fully functional power management system(power profiles/brightness adjustments/etc)? If so, where did you download them? I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that it's broken because I didn't uninstall/clean out the stock drivers first. Also not sure if the modded inf from laptopvideo2go has something to do with it? Couldn't seem to get it installed with the provided inf.
-
I didnt have brightness control with 186.82. I went back to using the beta 195.55 ones.

@Qrio a crack huh? kinda like the sound a spark makes when it arcs on the motherboard?

IPOD SYNC ISSUE
Has anyone fixed this? I updated to the latest bios, updated to the latest intel chipset drivers and I still cannot sync..
At first, I was able to sync some music untill it got to 6gb, now everytime it wants me to restore a backup and then when I try to add more stuff onto my iphone it comes up with tons of "not found" errors..Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Nope, Dell is going to have to fix it.
Personally I'm skipping the PM55 chipset systems until it's fixed. I *NEED* real USB support. -

well i've even restored the iphone now, so tried everything i possibly could.. maybe i should go buy a 3GS, I have a 3G.. -
Unfortunately I wasn't as lucky to have my 3GS sync with my M15x - having the random errors that make no sense at all (not found etc. etc. etc.)
There is a ~22 pages long thread on the apple forums ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2157442&start=0&tstart=0 ) regarding the issue, and it's something related to the chipset and its USB controllers, because with Win7 64bit on an older machine sync works just fine.
Seems like DPBrooch is one of the lucky ones that managed to do it.
Back to my cracking/clicking sound issue - I have attached the best recording I could make, it seems that the sound is coming somewhere from the left side, but at the moment I don't have the schematic of the notebook components to check what might be there.Attached Files:

look in the first M15x lounge and you can find a link to the service manual showing the schematics
-
It seems the processor is somewhere on the left side, and the HDD is around the front-left as well. It's really weird, and I'm getting more & more confused
-
Your correct with the placing. Take off the bottom and you can look

I'm wondering what the things on the left of the HDD are on that pic?
And has anyone checked my attachment above? It's a 3 second recording of the sound I hear when my PC freezes.
I'm leaning more & more toward HDD issue as previous posters suggested, but I'm still waiting on technical support answer (and possibly some here as well). -
i managed to get my iphone 3Gs 16GB to sync once with around 8gb of music, 1gb of photos and a few videos and apps. (after initially having problems)
What i did was to update to A02 >> Reinstall iTunes 64Bit Version >> disabling power management of USB drives in device manager (go to device manager, go to properties for each and every USB hub and under Power Management, Uncheck "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power")
it worked that once and I don't really wanna try syncing it again.. until i get a bunch of new stuff at least. hope it helps ^^

Hmm...do you think it could be something as simple as Intel's power management not working, so if you disable it it does? Sounds like a plausible hypothesis...just need testing.
-
I also disabled powermanagement to USB. I even got a Express Card USB card, which has it's own power and USB logic. Still 3 out of 4 sync's go bad. Untill Dell fixes it, i will live with it
-
*Sigh*. Thanks for the info. At least we know that's not the solution :-/

My m15x is having trouble with Zune HD software... its not the syncing but finding pictures and things on the Zune 4.0 software. Anyone else had this problem?
-
Just ordered my M15x
How long does it normally take for them to arrive? (in the UK)
-
-
took mine 10 days to get here.
