My bad about the sound issue. I found a more relevant thread.

I don't know if I've come across anyone else with the spacebar problem. I've been following this thread for quite awhile.

DP to hdmi will transmit audio with the proper adapter.

all 3 of mine had the flex.

all 3 plus most pictures i've seen show the space bar being higher on the right. its been asked before.

Does anyone have a problem with their GPU temps idling around 54 degrees after playing a game? Normally it's around 43deg. It's kind of annoying because the fan kicks into the next gear around these temps.

    YAY. My M15X arrived today!!

its frickin awesome. I had one dead pixel which I could fix using UDPixel. Now its perfect. Will post pictures as soon as I get the ftp working ^^

Also, I installed linux, and the touchpad seems to be working very well. Check it out for yourself:

Download Ubuntu 9.10 and run The live CD. NO NEED to install the OS. It will run from the cd and you can check it out for yourself

Yes it runs smooth in buntu 9.10, but I experienced that the cursor would wobble quite a bit, especially when you hold your finger still on the touchpad.(This is in the installed version)

Im not sure I quite follow. Could you try to paraphrase it? Alien respawn is a system where you can restore your pc Operating system to factory default. Can you be more specific on what the problem is?

    Some random questions:
    1. Has Dell fixed whatever issues they were having with this model? (I'd like to be able to Fold on the CPU and GPU when I'm not gaming.)
    2. Does the Samsung SSD you can get with it support the TRIM command in Windows 7? Is it worth buying now? (256GB is JUST big enough for me, but of course I hear all these horror stories about weird SSD problems)
    3. If I got the SSD, would Dell do warranty repairs if I returned it with another drive? (I'm not sending off my personal data!)
    4. Is it worth getting a 4 year/Complete Care/U.S. support warranty? I'm kind of torn on that, given it would cost me almost $700, but on the other hand if their support is good with complete care and U.S. based support, I wouldn't have to worry about if it dies for 4 years, which would be nice.
    5. Whoops, I forgot to ask this one-my Dell monitor only has a DVI port, so I need a Displayport to DVI cable. Do I want a "male" regular Displayport to "male" DVI?

Wish Intel was focusing their 32nm efforts on QUAD cores. So weird that their quads are 45nm, and the upcoming 32nm ones are only duals. Likewise I wish Nvidia's next gen GPUs were out, but still this CPU and GPU should be a big upgrade from what I have now.

Hi all, haven't posted much on this thread since i got my laptop.

its been pretty awesome, completed MW2 a while back and was super impressed with the quality (almost everything at max). Playing L4D2 as well =)

A couple of problems i'm having, could anyone help me with it? -

    1) During video calls, the mic level keeps dropping. this has to do with the IDT audio or windows sound system, i think it keeps lowering the volume automatically when the inputs get to loud (e.g. when i leave my speakers on 55% and above and play music, the mic level drops to 20%). any solution to permanently fix the mic level at 100%?

    2) If i use an external mic (e.g. headset), the default microphone doesn't automatically switch. is there any way to solve this? (i'm mainly using skype and msn messenger btw)

    3) Ipod sync doesn't work with iTunes. i'm guessing this is a PM55 chipset issue, does the latest bios update help this? Anyone also having this problem?

    TIA

    other stuff:

    bought a monoprice DP-HDMI cable
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10246&cs_id=1024607&p_id=6011&seq=1&format=2
gonna try it on a hdtv by end of this month, will update again if it works perfect with audio.. thinking it should

got my bluetooth card installed by a technician who came and installed it in (it came without bluetooth). Haven't tried it on any bluetooth device tho. haha

and i also removed the stupid youcamera program that came with the m15x. Seems to create conflicts for video programs. The alienSense reset its memory after this but, ohwell, don't use it much anyways.

seems to be popping up with alot of intel p55/pm55 chipsets. Asus and gigabyte has given BIOS updates that help, but only for their motherboards. (not sure if Dell's latest BIOS helps this). alot of HP's new models are affected as well, and intel says they're looking into it.

Wow. Thanks for the info, I had no idea. Really weird to me for an Intel chipset to have issues like that.

Geez...maybe I just want to avoid Core i7 for now :-/ The two Core i7 systems I'm looking at are both defective anyway, so...

I also have the iTunes Sync problem. iTunes comes to a grinding halt when connecting te iPhone. Sometimes it also does recognise the iPhone as a new one. Quite a bother.
I have updated my Bios to A02 and even disabled power-saving on all USB ports/hubs in device manager.

    Join the waiting game.

For the previous poster, the Samsung SSD does have Trim support you can check it is switched on by opening a command windows and issueing the command:
    fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify
    0=trim, 1=no trim.

Even aside from that, the Asus G51j is unstable, and the M15x throttles the GPU under full CPU load.

Thanks for the info on the SSD! That's awesome...except now...what with this USB problem, and the throttling issue, I guess I have to rule this out :(

also the black M15 is faster than the silver or red ones.
Another excuse not to buy the laptop.

Of course this is a perception, not a fact and is only based on my experience with my one laptop, which is black. So its not really "an issue" so much as its "my issue".

I really do wish people would cease the hysterics and differentiate their preferences from design strengths and weaknesses. Too many supposed issues are conflated amalgams of individual and context specific circumstances.

Don't agree? Run a poll and find out just how many owners of the M15 think they have a trackpad "issue", an "issue" with their usb, ipod connection/synch "issues" , had a bad screen, or have yet to experience the throttle issue in practice? Oh, yes, the stealth "non-issue".

Perhaps I'm jaded from reading one too many posts from people who are reluctant to read the full context of what has been well discussed (by posters like Joker and others) and instead seem intent on running around like little computer chicken littles.

Having defective USB and GPU throttling on all units are NOT minor issues, and NOT perception. Those are HUGE, and Dell SHOULD be doing everything in their power to fix them...and they've explicitly said they're not fixing the throttling.

I find it hard to believe that the iPhone USB problem has to do with the system itself. Maybe it's a Windows 7 problem? Or maybe a Windows 7 optimized for laptops problem? Franky I thinks it's a Windows 7 to iTunes problem.
Either the USB works or it doesn't so I don't see it being a hardware isssue.

Well I'm not saying it isn't an important issue, especially for me since I'll be trying to sync my iPhone to iTunes on the 19th when I finally have my system. Just saying I think it's Windows 7 not working with iTunes, not a driver or hardware problem. So that leaves it up to iTunes to come up with a solution.

It's NOT Windows 7 and it's NOT iTunes. I've used iTunes with Vista and now Windows 7 for the past year, and haven't had any major issues with my PM45 chipset. (A few times the program's gotten unstable, but not remotely every time-like maybe once a month, syncing my iPod touch a dozen times a day.)

when was this update issued? samsung drives do not support trim unless dell just issued a FW realease in the last day or so.

    defective ?

The fact that the itunes cannot sync correctly is not a bad hardware design. Its Itunes not recognizing the chipset so the USB port cannot get data to it.

Research my friend and the throttling can be fixed with a bIOS update and will be

Whats the avg score for the m15x, mine came out:

    7.1
    7.3
    6.8
    6.8
    7.7

    6.8

I think that's slightly lower then the standard build.

I'm using an newly installed windows 7 intel g2 80gb that i just replaced with the 320gb that came with it, and 1gb video card, I'm still trying to figure out what i should install using the resource cd, could that have been the problem?
