mini FAQ
Well upgrading HDD or Memory void my warranty?
Probablly not, if anything all you have to do is replace your original hdd back into the system before sending it back in for repairs.
Anyone now how the Gobi™ Mobile Broadband with GPS work? Since they use cellphone data networks do you pay a usage fee to which ever provider you choose?
I believe you need a Cell subscription to work with it, either ATT or Verizon. And I think it is like 60 bucks a month, but it basically gives you internet where ever you go. However, if you already have a smart plan and are paying for a data plan,, it is possible to tether your phone to your PC, and get anywhere wireless using that method.
Do You have to cancel the order if you want bluetooth and forgot to include it in your original order?
Yes.
Any idea when the i5s or i7s will be coming for the system?
There is no reliable time frame for the i5/i7 processors. Some people say summer, others October.
Everyone talks about how much better it is going from OC 1.3 to 1.6...but in reality how much better is it and why? Im new to all this so pardon the noob question but why so much better?
You are looking at a 20% performance increase, as in the same kinda boost you would get from upgrading to a UM i5 processor, and all you do is turn one options to yes.
What kind of discounts can you get?
10% off with EPP, $50 off coupon with EPP newsletter signup, and 3% off using your DPA.

According to Dell the M11X
- Scores 6000 to 7000 3DMarks (I'm guessing 3DMark06 looking at the specs of the graphic card).
- Has 6 and a half hours of battery life and over 2 hours during "intense" gaming.
- Runs Call of Duty MW2 on high settings and HD resolution at more than 30 frames per second.
- Runs Crysis at 50 frames per second. (Unknown settings)

This is part 3 of the M11x Owner's lounge; part 2 can be found here:

The thread is being broken up because threads with thousands of posts can hamper forum performance.
Thanks. -
Good idea!
-
So it begins! I think this thread will stay quiet until the first person gets their M11x.
-
This is related to part 2 about what games will be played on it. For people that will rely on steam for their games there is a special for the THQ bundle. Games include:
Company of Heroes
Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts
Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor
Frontlines: Fuel of War
Full Spectrum Warrior
Full Spectrum Warrior: Ten Hammers
Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights
Red Faction
Red Faction Guerrilla
Red Faction II
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
Saints Row 2
Titan Quest
Titan Quest - Immortal Throne
Warhammer® 40,000: Dawn of War® II
Warhammer® 40,000: Dawn of War® - Dark Crusade
Warhammer® 40,000: Dawn of War® - Gold Edition
Warhammer® 40,000: Dawn of War® - Soulstorm
All for 50 bucks.
They are not all new games but enjoyable none the less. Enjoy! -

That is a killer deal, steam is so crazy with deals sometimes...
-
Since no one has yet received an actual retail boxed version yet where would we we find the retail box list of contents? I'm curious to know how many media recovery discs are included.

and im so mad i missed the most amazing deal to ever hit steam, company of heroes+opposing fronts+tales of valor- $12.99 -
@Abused.
This upsets me greatly. I only have vanilla CoH, but I loved the game to death till everyone started dc'ing and all that junk. Can't wait to get mah m11x to start gaming on the pc again!
Edit: I just checked, and there's an even better deal abused. THQ game pack for 50$. All 3 CoH's, Dow's, and some other miscellaneous games! -
I got in the deal a couple weeks but only bought vanilla and first xpac for $7.50. Cant play it til I get a new PC lol
-
Why is this thing has two audio jacks? is it something for hardcore gamers?
I am not a big gamer but appreciate a good screen, powerful GPU(mostly for watching video in 720p and 1080p without hiccups), decent CPU(occasional editing in gimp/photoshop) in small(11" or 13") form factor. I am debating between M11x and Sony Vaio Z. The later one is better for me but can not currently be configured without expensive perks(SSD, chunks of memory etc) so M11x is a very possible alternative. I like the idea to upgrade harddrive or memory on M11x in the future(I am sure, it will be rather cumbersome with Sony laptop.)
Unfortunately M11x is so gamers oriented and some of the design features're beyond my comprehension(like those two audio jacks). It is also expensive. It calculates into 1047 pounds + ~200 more for extra-warranty. No good deals in UK.
Sorry for the rant. A lot of things are going through my mind. May be I should take a time off and stop reading thread until M11x is actually released. -
Of the past three laptops, two of them had two headphone jacks, nothing gaming related, just nice for sharing movies/videos on a plane or somewhere.
-
you'll appreciate it when you get a girlfriend.
-
^ I'm with stupid =)
-
i was gonna say... it's not just gaming lappies that have two headphone jacks. Like Abused says...
-
Alright then, two audio jacks and one girlfriend are coming up
-
-
-
are the dawn of war games any good? they look a little far fetched. even for a fantasy game.
-
@abused
DOW is epic, I've owned most of them yet. They had me screaming "Sanity is for the weak" for ages. -
Eggs Scrambled Notebook Evangelist
I like base building a lot too and these games are more about combat than base building (especially dow2) -
Wow...it's so silent in here. Where did everyone go?
-
looking for more pix of that frau probably
-
So does this mean Part 4 will now be for when a few people receive their M11x notebooks with actual benchmarks and thoughts?
-
@wingnut
seems to me, at this rate, this thread will work fine lol. -
Im sure when they start coming in there will be an influx. I for one will be doing benchmarks on every game I have(with and without OC).
-
New M11X Video !!!!!!!!!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaUlXxQEGM4 -
thanks husker, but that was posted in the past thread..but I'm sure people haven't seen it yet. Problem with the video is, it's pretty dated haha They're talking like it hasn't been released, price and stuff not known. but yeah I'm soo kicking myself now. I can't seem to wait 3 more weeks blahh want..to..be...computerr
-
man husker you got my hopes up. dont use the word new so sparingly like that... this is the internet
-
I'm sick of all these press release videos. I want some actual user reports but most of all feedback on the build quality, physical dimensions, and of most importance, real world benchmarks.
-
-
it's all good man. BTW Joker posted his quick hands on over in the status update thread if anyone's curious. It meant a lot to me coming from a respected NBR member.
Link for the lazy =) -
I just had a decent conversation with one of the tech support guys at Alienware (Dennis) trying to get confirmation of the Overclock features. He couldn't confirm exactly what we'd get other than the CPU bus from 800 to 1066MHz. I mentioned the review units showing 6.0 multiplier when overclocked, he said most likely it will be at 6.5 so we should be getting 1.729GHz.
The problem is that the machine they had there had the locked BIOS and pre-production sample like all the review units so he couldn't confirm. But what he's gathered is most likely we should also have more detail control in the BIOS in addition to using Dell software to overclock.
I wanted to push him to see if he could contact one of the engineers to find out more details on the Overclock features, but wasn't in the mood (I'm just tired right now).
He did confirm that first ship dates for USA are in two weeks from Monday (March 1). -
-
hey guys im not much of a computer person.. lol
i know some basics about computers..
my question is how "safe" is it to overclock your alienware m11x??? -
-
-
-
I am gonna overclock mine....until the last day of the warrenty
-
lol nice!
i've never done it myself but i know a few people that know how to do it..
but im not too sure what it will do to the laptop.. lol -
-
probably no much as there is such a small increase in heat( 1 degree ).
Atleast thats what one of the reviews(which i have read a couple times because i want the effing thing so bad). -
i can't believe we are already in 3..the m15x has lounge 3.. and it's been out waay longer LOL
-
We will be in part 5 before people start getting there little treasures.
-
cross post, but figured this is kind of a biggy.
My order color changed from "Lunar Silver" to "Lunar Shadow" which kicks b/c this gives me hope it's the darker silver. yay I just noticed it now, and I swear it didn't say that a few hours ago. -
that's odd.. the money dell took out from my account.. is back to my account.. although when i click on order status on my email.. it's still says in production.. what's going on~!?
-
The initial withdrawal was just a pre-authorization. Since Dell did not actually process the order yet the pre-authorization rolls off. So the money magically reappears.
