    @michael

    Please don't clutter the boards asking the same question in two different threads 4 minutes apart. It's hard to keep up as it is.

    For now, many owners have reported that what you said is true. Alienware's intentions is to make the Fn+F2 function to also include the disable battery charge, per the M11x manual. Like what Yoda said earlier, I do agree that a near future update will add this functionality.

    It'll cost you more, but you can renew it as long as you do it before your current warranty expires. Dell will send you information about it when the time gets near. It will cost more in the long run, but the brightside is you save more right now is you need the money for other things. It's a trade off.

    @michael: unfortunately no. Fn F2 doesn't change anything, it just shows you: battery enabled / disabled. To change it, you'll have to do it in the bios.

    You should be able to, I don't see a problem see that you can transfer the warranty to another person should you choose to sell the laptop. I would call customer care in the states. When I had my M17X R1, I did the same thing you did, ordered with the 1 year warranty, and when I got the laptop I called and got a 4 year extension on the warranty, so it was in total, covered for 5 years. They wanted over $1200, but I talked them down to $930 or something like that. But I would give them a call. It doesn't hurt to try. Just let them know you moved.

    @virtue, okay thanks then. because i saw one video from youtube stating that it can be abled or disabled using fn f2. but the fact is that i cant. so its gonna be troublesome. the battery life would definitely deteriorate for those who are not that hardworking.

    thanks alot :)

    wow! a whooping 900 US DOLLARS!!! oh my gosh. that was just some madness. if its too expensive to extend my warranty after i placed my order (however my laptop is still in the building phase), i may not want to extend anymore. perhaps i should call dell and asked for more info.

    @virtue, if you have the laptop, try this, hit f2 twice quickly. I read a few pages back that this works. Maybe it was shift f2, let me find it.

    Should be ordering monday or tuesday AU time, EDD of 24th :D which is great cos I go on holiday on the 29th :)

    @got2bel82day it's an unreal3 game so it should run at pretty much max settings.

    @neg2led = Phewweet. Nice. Let us know how much you get it for. A little strange since normal Dell machines just swap after a Fn+Fx press but still nice to have confirmation. Good on ya mate.

    How does the M11x stand up against the Asus UL30VT?

    I know that the UL30V has amazing battery life but what about CPU performance of both machines?

    Which is the more powerful in terms of doing multitasking and heavier stuff?

    Its a different class of notebook. Read chewie's review to get a better idea of the m11x and whether is suits your needs.

    @chewie = Put the review link as your sig? Makes it a lot more visible. Just a suggestion :D

    This one is with the high performance setting. Hopefuly post results in 15 mins

    If you post in the Benchmarking thread, I can update it later tonight.

    I'm going to anotate with an astrik whether somone has the 4100 or 7300. I'm going to make that note tonight, but to get in you need a CPU-Z and GPU-Z shot in the screenshot. check my sig for an example, my scores are linked to pics of the score. The reason I say this is because right now I'm at work and they block imageshack and so I can't see your pics.

    I'd really like to know how the m11x would perform when faced with a 3d modelling program like max or maya. I think those kind of programs are more CPU intensive than GPU, but hopefully this machine can cope with a bit of light modelling!

    I don't suppose there's any chance that one of you lucky m11x owners could download a trial of max for me and see how many polygons it can handle before it starts to chug? =)

    No, but there's plenty of documentation to back that up.

    http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php

    Intel SU4100 @ 1.30GHz 978 407
    Intel SU7300 @ 1.30GHz 989 404

    As you can see very marginal, certainly not worth £40 of my english pounds

    Got myself a trargus xs rucksack, seems that rucksacks for sub 12" machines are few and far between. Nice though

    http://www.gearzap.com/targus-xs-backpack-rucksack-for-netbook-and-mini-notebook-tcb006eu.html

    Also bought a samsung usb drive, powered by usb only. Loaded my HL2 disc last night, pretty good

    For those with AmEx - you automatically get an extended warranty on ALL electronics purchased with the card for free.

    That's why I don't bother with the extended warranties offered by Dell. By the time 2 years is up - IMHO - you're probably either happy with your system and it's doing great - or - you're looking for another system anyway.. :)

    It just came yesterday. Fits it nice and snug. The bag is pretty small but you can still fit the a/c pack in the outer pockets.

    although you say difference is marginal isn't a core 2 duo processor better than a single core meaning that it can processor more at the same time. What i did is as i am a student i saved over £40 so by adding the core 2 duo option its like it free :)

    Both CPUs have two cores. The SU7300 does offer a couple features above the SU4100 like virtualization and additional SSE instructions.

    @ahanslot

    "Core 2 Duo" is the brand name of a line of dual-core processors. It was Intel's high-end dual-core line, until the Core iX line of processors were released.

    The "Pentium" line is slightly lower performance, and the "Celeron" line is slightly lower performance than the Pentiums.
