Welcome to the M17x benchmarks RESULTS thread

This is a results thread only.

    ------------------------------------------

    *NOTE FROM MODERATORS:
For the newcomers - Benchmarking/number chasing can be a lot of fun. Be aware though, benchmarking can and will stress your components. Do so at your own risk.

The original M17x benchmark thread can be found HERE. Have fun with the number chasing!

    -BatBoy

    ------------------------------------------

I need benching done with the following:

Crysis benchmarking tool (please provide a screeshot)
3dmark06 (for those people @1280x1024 res and 1900 res)
Vantage (Run @ Performance mode.--- please list: Total score / CPU seperate and GPU seperate, turn physics off, the features test in Vantage is not necessary to run and it will save time by disabling it.)
Cinebench 10 (measure the performance of the processor and graphics card under real world circumstances)
First DirectX 11 benchmark released called heaven (Keep in mind that you'll need DX11 hardware to see tessellation in action)
Devil May Cry 4 benchmarking tool (screenshot)
    Farcry (screenshot)
    Street Fighter 4 (screenshot)
    Last Remnant Benchmarking tool (screenshot)
Other games are welcome but try to use recently released games.

Make sure you add a picture or link to the result when you post a benchmark.

Please run the following to test the CPU:

ORTHOS (provide HWmonitor screen shoot afterwards)
    Wprime (screenshot)
    SuperPi (screenshot)

For the GPU's please run the following:

Furmark (please post a screen shot of the max temp and the RES you ran @)
OCCT (Great software for testing GPU and CPU temps and stability, highly reccomended)

To monitor your system components please use the following:

    HWmonitor
    (Simple but good)
    CPU-z (display CPU information)
GPU-z (display GPU information and check your drivers)
Everest (little of everything, i highly recommend it)
Monitor TEMPs in game here using RivaTuner
    HDTune (check Hard Drive Performance)

To overclock your Card please use one of the following:

GPUtool (beta but worked great for me)
NVIDIA System Tools (For more information go here)
ATI Overdrive utilitys (They are Sweet apps)
SYSTool (OC both CPU and GPU)
MSI Afterburner (New but looks great so far)

    Other useful tools:

Fraps (record and monitor FPS IN-GAME)
    RMclock (CPU stuff)
    CPUgenie (change CPU vcore...not tested)
Central Brain (all kinds of sweet stuff, please test)
    ClockGen (OC CPU)

    ------------------------------------------------------

    Game top scores:

    Streetfighter 4: *Mandrake
    Resident Evil 5: *Mandrake
    Far Cry 2: *dondadah88
    Devil May Cry 4: *Mandrake
    Crysis: *Praetorian77

    ------------------------------------------------------

    SSD results:

Corsair x128 (using Indilinx Barefoot Controller)

This is just to see which SSD performs best on the m17x so please only test your SSD once. Doing multiple benchmarks will reduce the lifespan of your hardware.

    ------------------------------------------------------

    Conclusions so far:

The ATI's are proving to be more powerful in the synthetic benchmarks. With the right drivers people are getting 11K GPU score out of the box. With the nVidia systems it's closer to 10.3K. OC'ed Mandrake hit 13350 with the ATIs and SCOOK hit 12197 with his nVidia's.

As far as gaming bechmarks, nVidia edges out the ATI in Crysis and blows away the ATI in Devil May Cry 4. Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter 4 are both better with ATI.

    ------------------------------------------------------

    Sidenotes:

You can expect a pm from me if your post needs to be changed.
Make sure Physics is turned off when doing a 3DMark vantage run or your CPU score will be ignored.
Please make sure that your system is in your sig.
Benchresults based on NVidia GPU will have a green *
Benchresults based on ATI GPU will have a red *
Please let me know in your post if your score makes it in the rankings and specify where.
Special thanks to The Moo for part 1 of the thread, he did all that research for our benefit.
THX for your time to read this before posting.
Let's see some results now shall we :)

should probably add to do all runs with Vantage with PhysX off

    here are my runs:
3DMark 06: 16550 (but I need to work on this more)

3DMark Vantage: P12281 (this is for the most part finalized - note: PhysX off))

Some are free some aren't depends at which one you are referring to. Specifically 3dmark06 is free to run as much as you want and Vantage costs $20 to run more than once.

My scores are in my sig.

Allright, so this is my first time ever doing this. I am assuming all the settings in Vantage should be left to 'Performance' stock except that PPU is turned off? Also, will edit in my system into my sig in a while.....so here are the results, most everything on my rig stock except the proc with a small OC.

    9996
    Screenshot

And my second run, with CPU bumped up to 2.93 Ghz.

    10065

Now just have to tinker with the GPU's. Mandrake, Scook, could you PM me ballpark clock speeds on the 280's so I have something to start working from instead of guesstimating? Thanks...

This is actually kind of fun. :)

    @Praetorian
It is VERY fun (and addictive)

    @WaR
Only me and Mandrake got over P12k without physx, dont worry ;)

    @everyone else
There are MANY things you can do to help along your scores, I may make a thread on it if there is enough interest - Mandrake maybe you can help here some?

What are the settings you are using? Meaning, did you overclock the cards or processor, disabled the 9400, etc? I wanted to know because I also have a 260 SLI and a T9600. I'm using all stock and getting 60 maxed out.

    Just curious.

The CPU was heavily overclocked, i had it @ about 3.6 GHz for that benchmark. i had to do 3 runs because it crashed the first times. I wouldnt know how to disable the 9400, im intrerested in that on the otherhand. I am looking for the best way to OC my cards but i don't know enough about GPU to just randomly try it out.

Ah gotcha. Thanks. That makes sense. I was wondering about that since the benchmark shows it at 2.8. I only know that disabling the 9400 is done via Bios at boot.

Edit: You should have a little mark next to some names showing whether scores are at stock or overclock. Although thinking about it, it might be more cumbersome that way.

Maybe that's also the reason (even though I'm sure it's the overclocked processor). I like it with V-Sync though. I ran without it the other day and could actually notice the tearing.

Hey all, I am new here, but read a lot on these forums before ordering my M17x. I hope to soon be able to give back a little to this community. Couple questions for Mandrake:

    1. On the high scoreboard it shows a green star by your name indicating nVidia cards, but your sig shows ATI cards? Did you achieve your score with the nVidia cards?

    2. Not to be cliche, but with a 3DMark score that high, I have to know what your FPS is on crysis at 1200p. (It may be in here somewhere, but I got tired of browsing through 100+ pages in the thread, half of which are unrelated to benchmarking.)

    3. Any key tweaks you did to boost your score that high? (If its not a secret.)

    1. The specs in my sig will be my second M17x. I sold the first one.

    2. I did some Crysis benchmarking early on. Unfortunately it is buried in the old benchmark thread. I can honestly say I don't remember.

    3. Just OC'ing the CPU and GPU and keeping the system cool during the runs. Also manually testing each of the 3d settings. No secrets, just a lot time spent testing.

The reason why I edited was to include the actual scores in your post - that is all.

Including the scores, makes it easy for other users looking over the posts and does not require an additional click thru. Please include the #s for the bench run in addition to a link to your original post.

Post 1 has been edited to include this as a requirement. Thanks.

Sometimes yes but on other runs I put the notebook cooler over a vent for the central AC in my house. Yes my wife thought I was crazy. I want to buy some type of portable AC unit to do this with.

well it is a temp and not a score, but here is the difference between sitting flat on a table and propping the back up by about 3/4 inch haha

The max is the flat, the min/current is the propped. And this is in a room with a heater on and a fire burning, so not too shabby I think (and after editing the inf like batboy suggested making hwmonitor more acurate - and reporting cpu temps 5 degrees hotter)

And looking now, after I took that screenie, I see this!

Well you should see a bump in the numbers. When are you going to start some Vantage runs? Also how did you OC the CPU? Have you OC'd the GPUs yet?
