Right, after suffering intermittently for the past 4 months with OSD failing to launch and frequent reinstalls, i got fed up and tried this and so far it hasn't failed to launch once. I have no idea if it useful to everybody here but if it helps just one its worth it.

So the aim is to ensure it runs at startup, the issue is windows has problems running programs that require UAC authorization.

The fix is really quite simple and can also be used to define the startup of any program within set parameters.

Step 1. Open the Start menu and start the task scheduler by typing in taskschd

Step 2. You will be presented with this 1.PNG

Step 3. Right click on the 'Task Scheduler Library' at the top of the left pane and select new folder, name this for whatever you want, i have named it (surprisingly) 'OSD'

Step 4. Locate and select the folder you just created and on the right hand side pane select 'Create Task' This will open a new window that looks a little bit like this 2.PNG Give it a name like OSD and make sure you check the box that is highlighted in the above snip.

Step 5. In this same window select the 'Triggers' tab and select new. A new window will open at the top select ''At startup'' and make the last check box ''ENABLED'' is ticked. Click Ok.

Step 6. You will return to the triggers page, select new again and this time set the trigger to run ''At log in'' again make sure it is enabled and select ok.

Step 7. Now your back in to the triggers screen select the Action tab a the top and select new, select the type of action, choose start a program from the drop down list, Just below it select browse and select the OSD Launcher in my case located and named as follows C:\Program Files (x86)\OSD\OSD_Main_new hit ok, then ok again on the create task page and exit the scheduler.

Final Step. I am not sure if this is required but i also have the two other .exe files from the OSD folder (OSD_Service and Launch) within my start up folder.

On a final note this has to be completed from an admin account.

    Hope this helps.

    @moderator.

Could you please move to the main alienware page, not sure if the 11 + 17 have this issue but I think it's better suited there. Thanks

    Glad you liked it guys.

Sorry i think you miss-spelled ''Crappy OSD'' lol

Na it works for me for about a week, after installing it and the only time i notice it not working is when stealth mode kicks in and the pissy little light ever so slightly changes (absolute f...ing useless feature).

Good point. But that's the name of the service that provides OSD on these things. On mine, it starts automatically at boot. Is it not working for you?

It was/is a good guide for those that need it.

I wouldn't have posted it tbh but the fact that it can be used to delay items from staring up at log on, just remove them from the start up config and add them this way and instead of adding them as run at logon just select delay by 30 sec. Makes my system start a lot faster now that command center and fusion isnt starting immediatly.

Your kidding! i thought you were being sarcastic! Oh the irony.

It works fine for about a week, i think it may be conflicting with something else, but tbh i only have the bare min installed on my system cos i do a clean install pretty much every two weeks.

thread moved to main AW forum.

For those of you having issues, this may be something to look into. While not all of us have this problem, some do (apparently). Back up any changes you make to the registry if you choose to follow the instructions in post#1.

A first step if you are having symptoms similar to the ones the OP outlined is to perform a clean install of OSD.

    To do so -

    1. Install CCleaner if you do not already have it
    2. Uninstall OSD using the OSD Uninstaller or via the Programs & Features Control Panel
    3. Reboot the system into Safe Mode (F8 @ the BIOS screen)
    4. Run CCleaner's registry module and 'fix' any issues found (feel free to back up registry changes if it makes you feel more comfortable)
    5. Reboot the system (normal reboot - restart via Start menu)
    6. Run the current OSD installer for your system - download via support.dell.com.
    7. Reboot

A second option is to disable UAC (I have my systems set to 'Never Notify') if you have not already. To do so in Win7, see this link:
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...nt-control-uac-the-easy-way-on-windows-vista/

Finally, if still having issues, try the OP's suggestion. ;)
