I have noticed (paeticularly whbe working or browsing the net... hence no audio), that there is an ocasional click sound that happens rarely from the left side of my machine. almsot feels like the HD, but i am not sure. Anyone has any info on this?
Also, should i be concerned? request a new hd?
I have the 500gb HD option

Does it happen when you move the computer around? It has a sudden motion sensor that stops the HDD when the computers is moved too much. That's about all I can think of unless you have a bad HDD.

it does not happen while moving... my lappy has been sitting in a desk most of the time. It is not the repetitive clicking i have heard before whne a hard drive has a physycal error.... but i have to admit it sounds similar... only slighter one perhaps a single click. But it works fine

I get a pretty audible group of clicks at power on. It almost doesn't sound very normal, but I figure if it fails, it's as simple as a replacement and a restore.

Update: almost sounds like the head gets in a bind for a second

does your m17x sound like it's growling when you switch to discrete graphics or turn on the computer with discrete graphics on?

I was never a fan of western digital or maxter. 90% of all my hard drive replacements were either maxter or western digital.

    Hi ricard2798,
Vista always did keep the hard rive ramped up during idle. If it's a western digital drive, it's not too uncommon to hear the clicking.
