I know this question does not belong in this forum, but I have been here for some time and I would just like some quick input.

I have a not so old HP Desktop that I'm looking into upgrading the CPU. The socket type is 775.

Processor Support ranges from: Celeron D to Pentium D 900s

Does that mean that even if a Intel Dual core fits the 775 socket the motherboard wont support it?

I know the answer is almost obvious, but I might be in denial, hehe...

    That is correct.
Despite a P4 and a c2d using the same physical socket the pinouts are slightly different, and a p4 chipset won't run a c2d.
