And did you order something with your laptop? Like a laptop bag or other accessory? That may be what has shipped, not the actual laptop...

Yes it does, mine says Alienware 17 Base over the status, and has Item and shipping totals plus a tab "items purchased" on the bottom. Probably a photoshop of some other item, but why? Who knows, maybe he/she is ten

The giveaway, folks, is that it was their 1st post on NBR - done to wind you guys up, no doubt. I'd pay no heed to other people's EDD's as they will obviously be different to your own.

Definitely a troll. So am I the only one whos worrier that dell may not ship the 18 with a pls screen. They supposedly had problems with the lcd. Also (correct me if im wrong) it doesnt explicitly say what kind of screen there is on this laptop. We have only gotten verbal confirmation. Just curious on what you guys think about this matter.

I'd imagine it is simply a stocking issue. I'd be quite sure you will get a PLS screen, as Dell would be up for a big mis-selling case if they decided to use other screens. I would not worry.

I just received a phone call from Dell rep. He says they expect my order to be built in the next 24-48 hours. He says the EDD is still July 25th, and they cannot change that date, nor can they guarantee it will be shipped sooner, however, he said it should ship much sooner than that as it should be built early next week. Just hang tight guys! I predict next week will be a great week!

They indicated the same just now via email. I was told it would ship next week earlier this week on the phone and the email indicated it should be built Mon/Tues.

I posted in the owner thread that it's shipped, and I could make a screenshot, but I don't know where since I can't find where it says its the new alienware 14...

Well here is a screenshot of my order page, hope this is enough to convince you guys..

    alienware.jpg

edit: it's Dutch, the reason I'm new here is because it's my first alienware and I figured having an account here would help me out if I'll get in trouble..
So I started posting so that I could help some guys out with benchmarks and stuff. The shipping page says it would arrive before the end of the day, monday. I will post some pics with timestamp to convince if I really get it monday.

I'm with you guys on this one. I ordered the Alienware 14 on 6/11 and it's still "in production". I spoke with customer care today, and they told me that there was a parts shortage, hence the delays, but that my order should commence production in the next 24-48 hours.
I hope he was right. I'm moving in 4 weeks and kind of need my computer to get here before that. But, he agreed to route the delivery to another address if necessary. It's a shame that there are all these delays. I've been updating that order status screen like every hour for the last two weeks and a half weeks! Longest two and a half weeks of my life.

BTW: This is my first post here, so excuse the noob-ness, but I'm glad that I'm not the only one in this boat.

Been lurking these forums for a while. I’d like to thank all that have posted on here and help me to haggle on my AW purchase. Decided on the AW 17, 4900 processor, 32 GB RAM, 780 video card and 3 yr accidental support for $3, 112 total savings 17% plus 5% EP cash back. Anyways you guys are awesome. Newby question, the 4900 is overclocked? Thought only XM processors could be overclocked. Never seen Dell overclock a non XM processor before. Srry for the new questions, thanks in advance.

First time poster here. I'd like to thank every1 that has contributed to this thread you guys have helped me decide on my new AW 17. Specs are 4900, 32GB RAM, 780 video card, 3 yr accidental war for %3,112. Total Savings of 17%, not including 5% EP. Estimated ship date on or b4 Jul 24. Based on everyones posts here I won't hold my breath at getting it sooner. Newbe question and it probably is a stupid one but...the 4900 is overclocked. Never seen Dell overclock an XM processor. Thanks in advance.

You do have a point and I think some of this is just frustration over orders being canceled and the time its taken. Has this been like this in the past??

Just wanna update that my AW14 order of June 11 (although I just checked, it was confirmed only on the 12), still says In-Production after about 2 weeks of being In-Production now. It has upgraded screen, video card and hard drive. I'm Canadian.

Yes, we have seen this kind of thing in the past. It is not uncommon for orders to ship faster than EDD and sometimes get delivered a week earlier than planned. People have become so greedy and expecting free upgrades, etc. that it would not surprise me to see them over-estimating EDD to avoid the basis for those conversations. If they deliver it earlier than promised, there is no basis for anyone to complain.

If some of the orders needed to be cancelled and regenerated due to a QC or part availability problem, it is better to do it now rather than wait closer to the EDD. There are trade regulations and internal policies that govern how long an order can be pending, so they may be redoing orders to avoiding running into that problem as well. Imagine how much more frustrating this would be in the 11th hour... a few days before the EDD if it gets pushed out a week or two it would make more people upset.

We have similar builds. Although I didn't upgrade the ram and opted for 120Hz display. I had that same question about the OC 4900. It is listed as OC on the order, however, 3 separate sales guys kept telling me that it is not OC.
17, 16 Gb ram, 780m, 256 boot + 750 HDD, 4900. All for $2900 pre-tax plus that 5% dell advantage thing. After reading the win7 vs win8 thread I stuck with win7. Seems to be the safe bet. I can't help checking several times a day on the status. Been in production for 2 days already.

I just received an email from a manager at the customer support team at Dell. He indicated that the 18s have a parts shortage and that the earliest expected shipping date for any of the 18s is the 15th of July. It sounds like they are having problems getting some of the things they need to make it including the screens as mentioned before. Hopefully we all get our orders soon. Congrats to those that have seen theirs ship already. Mine has been in for over a week and a half and is still in "Pre-Production".

[Noob question] Since the new AWs are made out of aluminium inside out and aluminium conducts electricity very well will the components inside be prone to static electricity damages?

Well, any components are subject/prone to ESD damage, however, they will be installed in such a fashion that they will not short out because of the material used to build - unless installed incorrectly, as was the case with some GPU backplates - the metal was exposed to the underside of the PCB, and shorted out a few 580m's a while back - that was resolved.

In the UK, most laptops are "Double Insulated" - that means that they don't need a physical "earth or ground" when plugged into the mains - that's why you often see a plastic 3rd pin on your UK plug's and a "figure of 8" or "IEC C7" connector on many PSU's and various electrical equipment such as DVD players, etc. Of course, the 18 is built out of a conductive material, and obviously, for safety measures, you'll find that the plug on an 18 psu (in the UK, at least) has an earth pin connected - much like a metal table lamp would have, to prevent you getting frazzled LOL.

Sorry for the double post. I've just noticed that on the UK web site, the new Alienware 18 shipping dates have come down quite a lot - now showing preliminary ship date of 17th July. That's a LOT more like the lead time I would have expected from the off. Also, worth noting that on the top tier, the 512gb mSata also makes a re-appearance. :)

tell them you have a budget,i enrolled like this:

    (1) I got in contact with StevieJones who passed me his rep (the man with no name :D)
    (2) Then i contacted him asking for a quote on a system i wanted to my own liking, they will more than likely ask for the base config price and work the quote from that then email you it over.
    (3) Once you have the quote the rep will include a price, compare it to the base config.
    (4) Go into the reply with this in mind: Haggle on the price and say its out of your budget. Mine was £1998.99 base config and i said i wanted to pay £1600 maximum.
    (5) I ended up with 14% discount £1999.99 base price , £1721.74 disc price , £278.25 - 14% discount.

They will budge on price, after all they make commission on all machines sold,so they will want to push the sale through as fast as possible.
You should end up getting a sweetdeal. Any problems then fire away and we will try to help as much as possible.

Edit: Ontop of the discount im also getting a £100 credit because of the machine taking to so long to build. :D
Edit 2: Contact was via email/phone, UK and no account necessary.

Xvenich, as dazzy mentioned, my rep can help you out. Of course, if you have no UK address, you would need to use a freight forwarding service to get the machine shipped to you fro the UK. A few people have done this successfully, you can read more on my thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...-aw-system-accessories-please-contribute.html

I know you PM'd me already, but if you are now looking at forwarding a machine to yourself, I'm sure we can get you hooked up.

It realy saddens me that they will not build new M15's. The M17 is too big (and expensive, comparing to MSI) for my taste, and the M14 has the 765M, which is too weak. I hope they will make a new gen M15 with 770M.
