I saw there was a lot of confusion about what the Alienware M11X will have or will not have, so I decided to make this thread to put all the pieces of information we know about it here. (This is to make your life easier of course)![]()

According to Dell the M11X
- Scores 6000 to 7000 3DMarks (I'm guessing 3DMark06 looking at the specs of the graphic card).
- Has 6 and a half hours of battery life and over 2 hours during "intense" gaming.
- Runs Call of Duty MW2 on high settings and HD resolution at more than 30 frames per second.
- Runs Crysis at 50 frames per second. (Unknown settings)
Interesting links
- Intel (Chinese website) - thank you c__jay!
- The website lists the Intel Core i5-520M (2.4GHz) as the processor powering the Alienware M11X (instead of Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300). While we all hope it is an i5, this however could be a mistake. (especially that the page is "under construction". I guess whoever is behind it was too excited also.)
- Translation (using Google Translate)
What we know so far is...
- Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 (optional)
- Graphic card: GeForce GT 335M and Intel 4500M
- GeForce GT 335M Specs
- Display:
- Size: 11.6 inch.
- Aspect Ratio: 16:9.
- Resolution: 1366x768.
- The WSAD keys are also written in "Alien" language. (nice touch)
- Weight: Under 4 pounds.
- According to Laptop Mag, you can customize the keyboard to have more than one color.
- The fan is an AlienFX zone along with the alien head, power button, keyboard, speaker grills, and Alienware name.
- Battery is an 8-cell (non-removable).
- No optical drive.
- Has a SIM card reader.
- Ports: 3 USBs, 2 headphone, 1 microphone, HDMI, DisplayPort, mini FireWire, VGA and SIM slot.
- Will be available in 2 colors: Black and Silver.
- The starting price is officially $799. We don't know what's the configuration at that price yet.
-
I like it. This is now the *Official M11x Owner's Lounge*. Thanks for hunting all of this down amongst the many posts.
-
Thanks MAG! Do you guys think that this laptop will be able to play Starcraft II at high settings when it comes out?
-
Thanks! -
I want this NOW! I'll surely pay the 1000 bucks for the maxed out variant. I wouldn't doubt this running SCII on High settings considering that it is supposed to have fair system requirements.
-
I'm pretty sure it will run, high settings? don't know...
People are somehow forgetting that its sort of a midrange card we are running here, not because its an Alienware system does it mean it will automatically run all games at high settings. -
most likely a soon to be owner =)
-
wow, great post! I also am a soon to be owner! Sold my old laptop and everything already
-
Thanks - I'll be spending lots of time in this thread.

You guys think it'll come out in red? I plan on getting one, but probably not until i'm sure that a red will or will not come out. I've always wanted a red gaming laptop.
-
lol....ofcourse it'll come out in red. Just charge you $99 more.
-
Hey, i just noticed the battery is built in lol.. So we can forget about those plug out battery when using AC?
I wonder how long would the battery last like dat.. and how much to replace if the battery life has depleted..
-
Great thread!
Wish it was available for pre-order, isn't it only a few weeks away?
I hope doing your own upgrades is not a pain, adding more RAM and a SSD would be the first things I would do.
Wonder if DELL/AW are going to offer SSD for a option?
If they do I hope it doesn't cost a arm and a leg! -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
I would gladly pay 2000 for this unbeast, my m15x won't fit in my new bag, haha.
But seriously, I am playing my tax return around this lappy. -
will bioshock 1 run on high settings ?? Would it lag or not if it works??
-
Yeah, I'd say it would. The unreal engine is pretty darn efficient.
-
I wish they sell this here in the middle east
I have enough saved up to buy it
It seems to perform about the same as my current laptop but only 11"
Man I love it more each time I see it -
I'm definately jumping on this as the M17X R2 will likely be my desktop. This will be my travel gamer. Although being out here I'd have to have my R2. The M11X will be for down hours at work...like now
lol

-
so do you guys game with your battery pulled from the system? Never done that.. I thought it throttles back things on most laptops?
-
-
that would really suck if bioshock1 wont work
-

Hmmm, not to keen on the battery situation. Batteries I have in laptops don't normally last longer than a year or two. Not normally a problem as I just buy a new one and switch it in. I'm taking it this will be similar battery situation to the Mac's. Anyone know how many years the batteries in Macs are lasting?
On the subject of the M11x, I love it, but just can't get my head around the 11" screen and average spec's. Such a cool looking little machine though. I need something portable for taking away on work trips, but also powerful enough for some gaming and photoshop in down time.
I look at the M11x, average spec (impressive for its size), tiny screen. Compared to the Envy 15, which yes has a much larger footprint, but weights bugger all and is 1 inch thick. Nice 15" screen, heaps of grunt under the bonnet to run all the latest games, plus do some heavy Photoshop work. And its still portable. Yet M11x still intrigues me!? lol -
-
my current laptop is acer 5920 g which is totally crap.,..
will games be played on the m11 smoother than on the 5920 g??? -
On the other hand, you mentioned the Envy, which has a lot of hype. But after reading a couple of reviews I actually dont have such a good opinion of that laptop. It apparently does feel cheap. -
Also thanks a lot for this thread, the OP is mucho win! -

Man, I guess you can take your sim card out of your cell phone and use it as wireless in your M11x. I am considering this one............BAD

I'm guessing the battery wouldn't be too difficult to change, and if you get a warranty, it would be covered. Other then that probably just a screw driver and a few min. to get the bottom case off. I don't think I would worry about the battery situation very much.
-
question hw the prices are in europe -
-
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I would not fret over the battery as the current dell warranties are oustanding.
Had to get the motherboard replaced on my M17x. Called them, next day there was a tech at my house with the new motherboard. And that was on the standard warranty..... -
I'm hoping it can run WoW fairly well on mid settings if not high, though squeezing a good UI in such a small space might be a problem... XD

If its only a Core 2 Duo I will be sadly disappointed. If Alienware truly wants to be a gaming machine it shouldnt use last gen processors.
This puppy needs a i7-640um!!!!! Asus and several other vendors will have thin and light lappys out with nvidia graphics within a month using the new core i7 ulvs.
Core 2 Duo = pass.
Core i7 = Sign me up. -
This is one very sexy laptop. cant wait for the owners to start rushing in and benching!
-
-
I dunno why.. but I just went through the OP and read through most of the hands-on write ups and picture galleries as well as a couple of videos again.. sigh... I can't convince myself not to get one, I just can't!
-
Ahah, for 799$, its like a candy for the eyes, it seems so cute and all...
But I wont bow!
I have to resist O_O -
@cknobman:
Intel core2duo ulv is optional though...
so there is still a slight chance that they will be using ulv i7...
although the chance is less than 10%
