Ok so i have an Alienware M7700 With a Nvidia 6800 Ultra in it, and whenever i play wow for more than like 30-1hr it locks up. The screen looks like a bunch of pixels and then i have to restart. I tried adding the latest driver and i have the latest chipset driver and it still happens. Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like its overheating to me, but it must be working pretty hard to do so that fast.

Yes it sounds like an overheating issue to me too - take a look at our cooling guide. There is probably a lot of dust in the fans.

thats a bad idea... considering its the thing that actually cools your gpu... You probably just had a bad application of AS. Now please before you damage your laptop apply some thermal paste and put that heatsink back on...

no u miss understand me, i removed the part of the laptop case that cover my video card, i didnt touch my video card at all and that made it run alot cooler. All i wanna do is make the fan spin at 90% or more when im playing games so it stays cool. Whats this paste? Can i put artic silver on it?

A serious cleanup of the machine should help.
if you are experienced in applying thermal paste (arctic silver) to processors then go ahead, if you have any doubts, try getting a local dealer to take a look. those independent shops can get it done just nicely

there are also many online guides on how to do this,
you have to do it right or you burn out your card

apply arctic silver on your gpu. fn+f2 will toggle max fan speed (if you have the keyboard firmware update installed).

this should solve your problem. if not, you have a bad gpu or one that is going bad.
