    Hi Guys!

In the UK am looking at this deal:

the m17x at the bottom with the 750gb hard drive for £1549

Gaming Laptops - Customise a Powerful Alienware Laptop | Dell UK

compared to the others this one has probley the best bang for the buck* (yeah i know alienwares are overpriced though :(! )

anyways with the m17x with the 750gb and the i7 3720qm the video card provided is the gtx 675m.
and it does not give the option to select the hd 7970m (which is the one i want)

If customising the m17x from scratch the i see the 7970m is £50 cheaper than the gtx 675m and as we know the 7970m is much better performance wise:

    My question is this:

Can i make the purchase, pay for the laptop in full, then ring dell up and tell them if they can change the card to the 7970m and whilst they are at it can i have my 50 pounds back please :D!! ????

i was wondering if this was possible? as if it is i will make the order right now!

    Thanks!

Thing is, the deal you are looking at is a "bundled" deal.....if you are able to make changes after you place your order, it might affect the "bundled discount" that you get for that specification. You can make changes and/or cancel your order before it goes into production. This is normally a day or so after you place your order so it is a very small window of time to make changes of any kind. Once your machine has gone into production, it can't be cancelled or changed - you would have to take delivery of it and if you didnt want it, you then have 7 days (as you are in the UK) to return it.

I could be wrong here, but I imagine that if you paid for it, called up to change spec, Dell would simply cancel & refund your order and have you start over.....I doubt they would let you keep that bundled discount and then toss in a 7970m and give you £50 back too ...... nice thinking though!....

I would just save it in your cart and then call them up. if you make the purchase, you lose your leverage. Call in and say I would buy if it offered this...

I was able to get a different HDD than was offered on a package deal, i had to pay extra for it like in a standard upgrade, but they did configure the deal that way for me. I did not have the cash handy which worked out as I got a better deal with the 15% promo.
